res changing

ok so my res is like 5 days old right now. as you can see my plants are still just babies. when should i do a res change. can i keep it going for two weeks maybe? or is there some basic rule or schedule to follow? my ppm is sittin at 640. maybe kinda high but my plants seem to like it. should i watch my ppm and when they get to low change then?

Hello Max,Yes you can go 2 weeks on a res.I have gone as long as 17 days before a change.But I dont mean for you to do that but it dosent hurt it.Seven to ten days is a rule of thumb.I let mind go about 12 days in veg and around 10 days in flower at the longest.Yes you are right when the ppm's drop down low it's time to change the res.That happens around 7 to 10 days.I also top off my res with nutr mix and top off the next time with plain water.If the ppm's are high and you need to top off,just use plain water.If the ppm's to high and you dont need to top off,remove about 2 gals of your res and replace it with plain water.640 is alittle high but not to bad.If they like it leave it alone.I have had plants that wouldnt grow till I up there ppm's a bit.Each plant or strain is alittle different and want more or less nutr so a low starting point is a good thing.It's easier to up the nutr than to take them out. Looks to me like those plants aren't doing well with that high ppm. Unless I'm wrong there is some nute burn well developed on a number of leaf tips? I would get that cut back to the 400 range and work up from there, slowly.

I've run a 40 gal res. as long as 3 weeks. What I generally use as a guideline with the nute mix I use is the pH will start to get a bit wacky, and when it gets unstable that means time for a new load a goodies. You also want to be able to vary the nute loads as you go, so there are times you wil do res changes for that purpose if nothing else.

ya some arent as nice as others but that goes back to the trouble i had with my power cloner. they looked like shit when they came out. some had better roots than others but i wanted to try them all out. i have since pulled some as i have some rooted clones in peat pellets. i will start in the 400 range so thanx for the puff.
