Question Possible start of rootrot?

guys im not sure what the deal is with this situation...both my ebb n flow trays are flooding and draining at the same times though one has ICE and the other B52...the B52 has developed much better root systems and are that bright white and matted that we all are looking for.

on the other hand my Ice roots are not as developed and are starting to show a tint of brown to them..this kinda worries me and im not too sure what to do about it.

These girls are a week into flowering and i have one flood half way through the dark period. i was thinking about cutting out this flood during the dark period...let me know what you guys think. its just strange to me because the other tray has bright white roots and these are starting to show a tint of brown. i want to try to do something before it possibly gets any worse.

i did add some hygrozyme (supposed to improve root developement) but havnt really seen any inpact of it yet.

With Flood and drain you should not be seeing root rot. Are both trays feeding off the same tank? same nutes same additives?

Fred,
trays are running on 2 different resevoirs...one 30 gallon for the Ice and one 20 gallon for the B52's. i cant tell what the problem is...as far as i can tell its not too serious yet, nothing like full blown root rot but the roots are just not that bright white and are starting to show tints of brown.

Both are recieving the same nutes and dosage...since they just made it through their first week of flowering i left the ppm's at 700 to let them get ready for the build up like you said.

i feel like maybe during my lights off period when i have the one flood the water may be hanging around longer since the light is not on to help evaporate the little bit that hangs hangs around under the netted pots. maybe im wrong? who knows...im confused because the B52 are developing such nice root mats they are def gunna be a kick ass harvest.

Hey Ice,dose the pump and lines and the airstone and line in the res seam to feel alittle slimy. My res did that and the roots took on a brown color.I dump the res and cleaned it all the air lines pump and pump lines every thing under the tray.Put back fresh nutr and didnt have anymore problems.I dont know what cause it,it could be when you change your res and dont flush the plants for 3 or 4 days and then start flowering nutr some things is left on the roots and the flowering nutr and addtives dont mix and cause brown roots and all.Tek-Mike at AN gives this addvice {when in doubt flush them out} it only put off the harvest the time you flush.Do you have any light leaks in your tray getting to the roots, this will cause them to brown too. That's about all I can think of right now, hope that helps. PEACE

b-52 is notorious for nice healthy roots so expect it to look better anyways and your roots on the ice should be fine if you are worried then i would clean everything and add new water plus a dash of hydrogen peroxide to the res.

Some Nute's will turn your roots brown...but brown roots and root ROT are two different things.

I've had roots go brown on me in Ebb/Flo, and they were fine. Are they "slimey" and nasty, or just brown?

i would say they arent slimey just tints of brown here and there...im re doing both res in like an hour (after i finish this delicious blunt of haze!) and ill clean them out first in my shower and then re fill re nute and add a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide. what do ya think? no need to worry?

FWIW, the HP will clean up the roots, but if those aren't real healthy plants adding too much HP can stunt the hell out of their growth. Personally I would avoid it if they are just a little brown in color and no slime or nastiness present.

I used a capful of HP in my DWC buckets, and never noticed an issue, but in the E/F system it just killed me. Had to toss to plants that never got going...they grew, but real skinny and never got over 12" in 6 weeks. Everything esle was purrfect with the res., etc.

JMHO, of course...Closet has more hydro experience than I have, and a tablespoon shouldn't hurt in a big res. Once my flower lights fire-off tonight I'll get a pic of the roots...you would be shocked at how brown they are, but then, the Canna nutes I'm running in there are very brown in color...maybe the roots become the color of what they eat?
