High, this wasn't a trick question, was it?
Chart says: 5.8... Hydro!
I like 5.9.. maybe my meter is off...

5.8 is generally said to be the magic number. many say that in flowering however, you should drop your pH. i dont know why people are told this, as it doesn't seem to line up with the chart above, especially with lockout of P and Mg.
i must say that I did lower my pH in flower (in soil) from 6.5 to 6.3 and the plants seemed to like it. i suppose it depends on the strain too

Hey Guys, Most people say 5.8 and start at that. You look at the chart and draw a line across it ,you see that it doesnt have much cal and mag. This is why you see magnesim defeciency in some plants. We add cal-mag or epsom salt in the mix for that reason.DieAbetic said it, some strains like it better at 5.8 then others do.Look at the chart and you see when you drop the PH down to 5.6 or 5.5 the plant can up take all but the P and the Mg witch at time of late flowering they dont need that much they have store it up too.Alot depends on your water quality of what it has in it too.Have your water tested three times a year and you will see how it changes too. Also you will see what's in it and you adjust your ph and nutr to balance it all out. As the cycles change so do the need for nutr and lowering or raising the PH it will let the plants uptake all they need when they need it in there cycles of Veg, transition, flowering. So it's hard to say just one PH is good for all. peace

5.8-6.2 (below 5.8 risks Mg def. above 6.2 risks K def.) is the range I've always aimed for. I never expected my pH meter to be 100% accurate so I always do 6.0

Look in the phone book for your county water treatment plant. They test the water all the time.County and state has testing labs that they use. Some pool supply place test but I dont know what they test for just PH I think. The states water management office can tell you where to get it tested. Peace
