Default More and different DWC questions

Hey yall .
SO it looks like I will not be able to change my dwc this week. But I may be able to drain off a couple of gallons and replace what I drain with fresh mix. Everything is good I was trying to stay in the habit of weekly changes.

So my question is ... Should I let it go until next week? and just keep it topped off?

Or do I do a partial solution change. Would this cause lockups? Is this just a bad Idea?

Thanks... and dont Ignore ISO's question

next grow put a hole on top of you dwc just big enough for the bottom of a funnel and a drain plug on the side at the bottom you can get the drain kit from stealth hydro or home depot. but it helps alot and dwc should be changed every 14 days but as long as you dont get alot of excess salts built up then you will be fine!

Well It will be under 10days I have been washing mine out with every water change. On the bottom of mine I mounted one of these http://www.wineandcake.com/browse.cfm/4,260.html
you can get them at any home brew shop
does not empty the whole thing but gets it down to like 1 1/12 gallons. So I can do a partial. I think I will just keep it topped off and do a full change when I can

I recommend a complete change of nutrients once a week to once every two weeks. Although some argue that this is a waste of nutrients and you can just top up the reservoir when the nutrient level has gone down due to evaporation and transpiration, this may be true.

However, depending on the plants nutritional needs, it may be taking up more of certain nutrients and less of other nutrients...topping up can lead to toxic nutrient levels with some nutrients and deficiencys in others. If you consistently top up with plain pH adjusted water, eventually, the nutrient solution will become depleted of nutrients and the plants will suffer. When nutrients are first mixed..the nutrition is very balanced and for this reason I recommend changing the buckets out at least once every two weeks and preferably once a week. Be sure to scrub the buckets out well with hot water each time you change the nutrients.

This is where my concern comes from but @ 10 days It should be ok I hope.

Hey lizard I change my bucket 10 days to 14 days. That big girl is a little hard to work with.If you can get a small pump you can run a hose down to the bottom of the bucket and pump it out.You can get those little pump at Harbor freight for $5.00.After it's drained you can fill it with PH water and use some flora kleen by GH and runner a few hours and drain it refill with fresh nutr.If your salt build up is not to big of a problem just use water and let it run for a day and then add nutr.I soap and water clean my cab's res once a month.10 to 14 days I change the nutr and only wash out the res with water. It's about every 3rd res change that I have to clean it with soap. But each system is different.Mogie & closet put you right,if you clean it once a week at res change you will not have any problems.Your plants will tell you when they want fresh nutr&water. PEACE
