As some of you know I started a small hydro bucket system in my latest grow. I wanted to see if this was something I could handle and make sure I was comfortable with hydro growing.
Well, I like the results so far and happy with the ease of use so I decided to get into it more. I was at WalMart this past weekend and they had some totes on sale for $6. They are Sterilite Totes 18 Gal or 68 L units.
Here are some pictures of the totes and the dimensions.
Top 18.5" W X 24" L with an internal flange/lip of 3" in a racetrack pattern.
Inside of the totes 16.5" W X 20" L with indented handle recess on each end.
Totes are 15" deep.
The lids are rigid around the racetrack lip reinforcements are there. Leaving the inside usage 12" W x 17" L
I am thinking of using 6 sites for plants approx area in photos.
My little dog needed some convincing but has now come around to the idea.
I have much more to work on but this is the start. Simple set up design all in one and the plant loves it. I have always used the General Hydroponics 3 part nutes so they are reasonable to begin with. I'm trying to simplify my grow and make it more compact. The 3 gallon pots I have now full with plant I have a hard time moving them with my screwed up hands. | | The Following User Says Thank You to I8ntLucky_UR For This Useful Post:

Hi Lucky,
Isn't hydro wonderful?
I don't think you need a big res, I have four plants growing in one gallon and they are loving it!

I agree with the size of rez the only thing you need to watch is the plant uptake. I look every day to make sure I don't run dry. Some days the plant just sucks it up.
Yes wonderful and easier then first thought. It is of course helpful being here at GP where you can't stray to far off the correct path. GP = Support to all. | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to I8ntLucky_UR For This Useful Post:

I'm glad I started with the little hydro pail. It was the way to go for me anyway. Now I see the value and simplicity of it I can only move further toward it.

Looks like an exciting adventure lucky. I too have been back and forth with thoughts of venturing into the water world... The only concern I have is the added humidity in my home... Our house is quite humid to begin with. I will be keeping tabs on your progress... I have everything I need to get fired up... You just might give me the kick in the butt (insparation) that I need to get rocking...lol
When do you figure you might get the new system fired up...?
What will you run in it first..?

Hey there Shinning I don't kick my dog so I'd never kick a lady. LOL I will try to inspire you to try hydro hows that?
I would like to get this going in the next few weeks. I'm not too handy and my hands are kinda fried but I will try and get this done. It is only plastic not steel so I think I can do it. LOL
I have such a good variety of clones now from my first and second grow. Plus I still have a few Black Ice seeds from HGS I would like to get a female this time. I will have 2 totes and wanted to keep them 1 strain per tote and I will have 2 hydro pails in there too. Crap! Only 2 grows in and I don't know what I should grow next is there something wrong with me? LOL
The good news is I have time to figure it out.
Edit: I will keep an eye out for my humidity but since I started no major change. Winter coming so windows closed you know. I have a de humidifier if needed as well.

Hey Lucky,
Glad you decided to catch the wave. I'm using a 14 gallon tote myself. It's not too high (I have height restrictions) and the size is just right for me. I'd advise you to get a pump (Beckett) from Home Depot since you have bad hands. I bought one the other day (I'm going to try Bubbleponics in conjunction with my bubbler) and it makes filling or draining the Rez a snap! Depending on how long of a hose you use you won't have to move you Rez around at all to fill it or drain it. The pump is a tiny little guy (60 gph) and it was under $20.00 bucks (about $19.00 with tax included).
I still need a manifold so I guess I'll have to make another trip to the Hydro shop!
-the Corsican.
P.S.,
Are you going to post a pic of your single bucket with the MJ?

Are you going to post a pic of your single bucket with the MJ? | Thanks for the heads up on the pump I will check that out. Moving and lifting is difficult some days more then others for these mitts. LOL It's always the days I need to do something they hurt the most right.
I do have the pics of the single hydro bucket in my current journal with a single Sno Dawg plant in it.

No problem,
I have a trick back that likes to go out on me if I look at something the wrong way so I know how it is. The pump is a nice little gadget to have around and it will minimize any heavy lifting you might have to do.
Cool, I'll take a look at it brother.

I'm glad your liking hydro dude...it intimidates some...but most people I have turned on to hydro have always wondered why they waited so long to make the switch.
I have recently strayed away from the water...and went with soiless...which is kool for for the mom's I plan to keep but my flowering cab is going back to hydro after this grow is done...prolly DWC(5gal buckets)
Anyhow dude enjoy your new project...I'm tunned and cant wait to see massive buds in your new set up

I'm glad too! Hehe!
It wasn't intimidating at all to me since I like technical things and don't mind building things for myself. I just hope things continue to go well. I might have a problem so I sent you a private message. Hopefully you can shed some light on my situation.
Thanks brother,

As far as hydro and cfl's go I know Lumix uses cfl's as supplemental lighting in his hydro set up. You could use hydro with cfl's I don't see why you couldn't. I guess most cfl'rs grow in confined spaces so adding hydro might further reduce height of growth? Maybe?
EDIT: Right under my nose..... Corsican uses hydro with CFL's good work buddy!

Some people have amazing results...DeepH20culture uses them and his nugs look mighty nice.

Thanks Lucky,
I'm using 4-26 watts per DWC unit but I'll have to add more I suppose once they get a little bigger. They work nicely for vegging. I've seen nugs as sweet as HID nugs and the grower was using cfls. I think it depends on who's doing the grow. The buds might be smaller but they still look and smoke very nice (from what I've been told).
