Rep Power: 21 | | leaf edges curling upwards
I have some seeds of an unknown strain going. Just a few weeks old, growing in a waterfarm. I noticed 2 days ago that the edges of the leaves are starting to curl upwards. The TDS level is around 600. The PH is unknown as of yet, am hoping to get a PH pen tomorrow. Could the PH be my problem? There is a 1000 watt metal halide a foot and a half over top of them, plenty of air circulation. Could it be anything besides the PH?
As I said, the seeds are of an unknown strain. I have a friend that groows some really good bud, and have gotten blessed with a seed from time to time. I had 6 seeds, 1 didn't germinate, 1 isn't doing too well, stayed very small, will most likely yank it, 2 of them were seeming pretty healthy, just not as big as the best looking 2.

Stress! Maybe the lights are too close for that strain. I have some plants outdoors that disintegrate in the sun and it starts with canoe leaves. Try raising your lights, and yes PH could be a problem too. That should be corrected regardless. If you have a ph lock and fix it those sick plants will take off. They are still older than new seedlings and could be flowered faster. I am not a hydro guy but I am sure one will drop in on you soon.

hey have a look here: Grow Marijuana FAQ, Cannabis cultivation - marijuana growing tips & photos
if you look at #3, its looks like a Mag deficiency. Are you using tap water, or are you filtering water (R/O) etc? If you are buying water or using R/O, you are getting absolutely no micro amounts of magnesium (and usually calcium). You can get a little by using tap water, but I dont know how safe your tap water is there. I suggest buying a Cal-Mag hydro bottle to add to nutrients. I think Botanicare makes it, $15 a quart found online.
Curling up can also come from lights being too close and heat.
What is your pH? Whats your room temp? Whats your ppm?
Hope this helps |

The room temp is 78 degrees, the water is tap water. I'm not sure yet what the PH of it is. I don't have a PH pen anymore, but am hoping to get one tomorrow. I don't think the lights are too close at all, it is more than a foot over the top of the tallest plant, and there are fans blowing as well.
Would my nutrient regiment not have mag. included in it? I am using the BC line, grow, boost, bloom

if you are using tap water i wouldnt worry about it, tap water usually contains the cal mag nutrients. then yeah i would def say lights too close and get that ph meter asap! things can really go wrong in hydro if the ph goes off.

If my local hydro store is open tomorrow, I will be getting the PH meter, if it isn't open, I won't be able to get it until Monday. A foot and a half is too close for a 1000w halogen to be to the top of the tallest plant? If so, how high should it be?

back it up to 2.5 feet, and make sure you have a fan that blows across the top of the plants. as they get older you may be able to put it within 2 feet. (up the 18" you had before)

Hey K, that's the start of a PH problem. They are curling up so they are locked out of the nutr they need to up take.Without a PH pen or meter you are flying in the dark.Using tap water are you letting it sit 24 hours before you use it?If you dont get a PH pen go to a pet store and they have the PH test kit for fish tanks, the little bottle and drops. It's checked by the color. You will be alot closer to the right PH with it.But do get the PH pen it will tell the right PH.The PH being off and lock out you will have to flush the system to unlock it.I would get some water ready to PH for the flush.I dont think the light is to close,Put your hand on top of the plants and if you dont feel it getting warm in a min or two you are fine and keep the fan blowing across the top of the plant too. What's the humidity? To low or high and you got problems,I dont think it's to high right now.The BC 3-part nutr you are using are good ones.I used them and like them alot too, them and GH 3-part.Flush and set the PH and I think you be ok.Need more just hollar. Peace

Today I finally got a PH meter. The water coming from my faucet is 8.8, but the water in my waterfarm reservoir was 6.8. How can that be? lol I corrected the reservoir to 5.8. I'm going to pull the leaves off that have the curled edges and hope that issue is solved!

Hi Kentucky,
I had a similar situation with one plant and it was a temperature problem. MH is a very, very strong heat source. Try to check your cannopy temperature, even when your grow room is at 76, your cannopy could be wayyy over that and that is not good. 76 is the sweet spot for the cannopy temperature
Peace
PS: Keep checking your Ph, it is a must in hydro
