Rep Power: 32 | | Hydroton and Peat Pellets
Ok so first i need to say i started with a lie....
but im using a product like peat pellets but from an enviro company that says peat is being depleted....anyway....
so i just picked up 2 WaterFarms(2gal) and an HPS light. i also have a few seedlings that have been started in these "peat" pellets....
i was curious if i could test out these waterfarms by placing the peat pellets into the hydroton and start using the waterfarm?
any help with this would be greatly appreciated. :-D

lSounds like a plan to me, siriguego. I always start mine in a rapidrooted so I don't see why it wouldn't take right off and be AOK.
got a link to these pellets? Who makes 'em? Do you like 'em?

whats the best way to do this? i have 2 sprouts in the pellets now that i would like to relocate. they seem to be stretching atm so should i just place the pellet buried in the hydroton so the baby leaves are right above the top of the hydroton and place a light in proper range?
then do i have the pump running 24/7 while the seedling is still only in the pellet? i dont want rot or anything like that and the hydro is the new thing for me. trying to experiment side by side with my soil grow.
perhaps ill just transplant these seedlings to solo cups and start some bagseed for a first time hydro grow. regardless....if i start them in the pellets whats the next step for relocation?
thanks all...once again HUGE help and big ups...thanks

Since it's a new thing (both you and hydro and these peat pellets) I would try burying the stem of one as you described and then I'd plant the other one where the top of the peat pellet is even with the hydroton. (this is how I usually do it with rapidrooters)
If those peat pellets retain moisture well I would focus on keeping the hydroton moist and not on watering the pellet itself to force the roots out/into the rocks. Cycling 4-6 times a day SHOULD keep it wet enough....but each system is different so go by what you see and not by what I say.
rock n roll!

If needed....you can tie a peice of string or wire across a part of the "drip ring" to make the drops fall closer to the plant early on. Just make the low point where you want the drop to fall. Follow?
once they rooot....3-4 times during lights on will probably be all the watering they need.
and they will ROCK! LOL.

solid...thanks alot. originally i wasnt in the mood to try hydro and since the deal was too good to pass up im VERY excited to start this experiment.
i read your posts, WW, and JohnnyBoy in the Project Part 5 Hydro thread and they have given me all the basic and then some info that i had been searching for.
going to start 2 bagseeds in it later this week. i decided i didnt want to experiment with good(expensive) genetics on my first hydro grow but will try bagseeds and if they dont happen to work then i will experiment with clonign and hydro simultaneiously :-D
