Default first grow room

hello and thank you for visiting this page. i built my first hydroponic deep cultivation room. i have a ten gallon tupperware container with six gallons of water and two bubble stones. i use flora gro nutrients. i used things from around the house and purchased things that i read about like pot baskets and rock medium. i have a 250 watt light one exhaust fan and one intake fan and a small humidifier. the temperature in the room is between 72-80 degrees and might spike over 84. the humidity is at 52% i am using base nutrients because i put younger plants with my older plant that is 3weeks older. i know i messed up all ready by putting my younger plants with my older plants. but i think this is where i really screwed up. i have five plants that grew in the rapid grow. as soon as they sprouted about three days later i put them in my system two of them died two were short and scrawny and one seems to be growing just fine like the older plant that i did this to as well. they are sitting under a 250 watt light the leaves are turning yellow and browning. i read that i should cut them off. is my tempurature to high? my humidity to high or to low? is the light to strong? should the roots be touching the water all the time? could someone please help me with these problems like so many people on this site i have a job and a family and do not want to make this a job away from my family. i have pictures but do not know how to put them on here but i will try i also want a good quality product for my own pleasure thank you.

Welcome Lit, Lots of good blokes here at GP and am sure you will get many replies..

I'm still studying up on Hydro so I will not be of much help to ya.. IF your doing DWC, then I would say yes, your roots need to be in the water/nute solution all the time. If that is what your doing then I would look at your PPM in your nute solution, may be to strong and buring up your babies. What is your PH?

Read over the stickies here.

Lots of good info...

What is the source of your water? Chlorine from city water can be problematic, and I tried to kill a few with a water softener. I am using straight well water right now and they are liking it.

It could also be the heat... Do you have a thermometer that reads the min/max temps? And how far do you have the plants from the light?

As for the pics.. yes, please attach them! When you reply to this post, do an "advanced" post and you will see an attachment area towards the bottom. Also, if the pics are too large, it may not let you upload them.

Hey.. and one more thing. You will probably want to pick up a halfway decent PPM meter and PH meter if you do not have one already. They will save you a ton of time frustration in the long run... I spend a lot less time fussing with my plants now that I can check them with digital PPM and PH pens.

Litmy,

Welcome to GP! It is really a superb site, especially for the new grower. Glad to have you with us!

I know you're being hit with a jillion questions, but I got a couple too.

The number or roots and their length in the pic tells me they have stretched a bit.

Q: What kind of 250 Watt light is that? Is it HPS, CFL? You want the light as close to the plant tops as possible, without burning. If you run a fan across the tops of the plants it helps to keep that area cool, and by keeping the light closer you can reduce that stretch a bit.

As for water depth, with roots of that length I would be about 1/4" under the netbasket. She knows where the chow is, now she has to work a bit to go get it..
