Default dwc for dummies; kp's ghetto gro buckets...

we all know how you can spend a fortune getting a nice hydro set up. however, for next to nothing, or absolutely FREE for those who know how and where to look, you can make your own dwc system that will equal or surpass any store bought system.

i started out with a five gallon bucket i found at a construction site. when selecting a bucket, it's important that you get one that has not housed toxic chemicals. my buckets were from a sheet rock project, and the sheet rock mud is inert and safe for use.

clean the bucket well, cleanliness is next to godliness in hydro.

next, i picked gravel from outside, and washed it well, then boiled for ten minutes to kill any germs. once the gravel cooled, we were ready to set up the cup.

i made a net pot from a 12oz cup. by making a hundred or more holes, the cup has been made into an adequate root developement housing . once the roots coil, the offshoots will sprout out of the holes.

for the lid, cut a hole slightly smaller than your net pot (about a quarter inch smaller) and drill two holes for air lines. run your line in through the lid, and attach airstones. hook those up to the pump and plug it in and you are all set with a dwc bucket!

feel free to ask any questions.
