| I bought a couple of bags of botanicare cocogro recently and notice it's much dryer than what I was previously using. It also seems to dry out faster between waterings than say b'cuzz or canna loose. Anyone use botanicare cocogro -- should I water more frequently? Also, what's up with the expiration date -- how can this stuff go bad? My bags were stamped with a date 6/07; the bag says it's good for one year after the date; I just transplanted this month -- should I be concerned? | ||||||||

| yes, I did email the company -- they said: "The expiration date listed on the bags of Cocogro is simply the “best used by” date. When stored properly (in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight) the product can last quite a while longer. For example I have been using the same bag of coir fiber in my own planters for approximately 2 and 1/2 years and have not seen any noticeable problems with it. If the product is past the expiration date the main issue to look for would be mold or bacterial growth caused by excessive moisture in storage. Feel free to contact us again if you have further questions or concerns." So, now I have another inquiry to them about how frequently they recommend between waterings. For those of you unfamiliar with this brand of coco -- it is way dryer than other brands. At this point I have already stopped using it and am about to repot all my plants with what I am familiar with and have had better results with! | ||||||||

| i wouldnt worry, coco is a great medium and will dry our a bit quiker than other substrates, keep an eye on your watering patterns, its hard to over water in coco but very easy to under water.
