Default Air Pumps - Need MORE Power!

Hey all,

I've got 3 of the DWC bins going now, each bin has 2 plants and holds about 8 Gal. at 1/2" under the baskets.

Problem I am having is getting (what I feel) is enough air to the airstores. In one bin I have 2 of the 4" round, and another 6" straight, and the last is 1 4" round and 1 6" straight.

For air pumps I'm running 1 of the Tetra Whisper Air (AP 300) and 1 of another brand that is supposed to be for a 30 gal tank, but barely gets the job done on 2 stones.

It's been recommended by BD1975 to get a couple of the used nebulizers..and I'm working at winning a couple, but I'm too cheap to pay the overcharged shipping costs on most of them.

Is there a solid, quality pump a guy can get for under $200 that can really get the air out there, and is reliable? I would rather run one large pump and route the air as needed to the bins, and enough air to make some SERIOUS bubbling action!???

I'm not afraid to spend a few bucks, but just getting tired of wasting it on these cheap-azz pumps..

ISO

you know I was thinking about the more power thing I was thinking small air compressor like the type you would have to inflate tires or pool toys a little modification to attach to an airstone. With something like that you could run a few buckets with plenty of air. Hmm maybe an airbrush compressor that my have the reliability we need.
perhaps something like this

It could be good if you don't mind the noise. I have 3 compressors here, one being similar to that one, but I'm pretty sure the psi would be too much for the little hoses and bubblestones.

I thought about this ide, as I've got a small electric 100 PSI pump from Craftsman that I've had for nearly 20 years. I did hook it up to a bin with a slight modification to the nozzle to accept a "T" joint that had a flow-control valve in it. DAMN did it make bubbles!

Problem is that some compressors can pass oily water through the air lines. Ones made for aquariums as they have a permanent lubricated piston or diaphram that can't leak oils into the airflow.

Pumping oily air into the plants water may not be a good thing...ya think?

Damn good idea though...!

Hey ISO,I have a topfin pump, got at petsmart for $20.00 it has two outlets and it for fish tanks up to 125 gal.It runs two 5" air stones with alot of bubbles. But you are running 3 tubs,I would get this 35 watt commercal grade air pump, has 6 outlets and will run all 3 of your tubs.Go check it out at plantlightinghydroponics.com,they have a few pump that are priced right.Later this year I will be picking one up too.Look at it this way you use one electric outlet, not 3 or 4 and less use of electric too.Commercal grade it will last for years with out any trouble. PEACE

Those nebulizers will knock water out of a five gallon bucket, what ya'll want is a tornado or maybe a hurricane...just put an airstone uner the roots of each plant, not alot of pressuse just a lil directly under each one...someone PLEASE do this and watch what happens...
