Rep Power: 77 | | Various manures supply nutrients
Various manures supply nutrients as follows:
Chicken manure: nitrogen rich: use w/ heavy feeders such as tomatoes, pot etc
Cow Manure: potash: use for root crops.
Rabbit manure: promotes strong leaves and stems.
Horse manure: leaf development.
start your seedlings on some cow shit, then get some horse shit then some chicken shit with rabbit shit and finish it off with cow manure for that healthy potash dosage, excuse my french, will someone try this shit? and let us know?

Most manures are simply to hot for direct feeding. Perhaps light side dressings would work, though I've never tried that. I think it would be best to prepare a grow plot in the fall of the year by turning the manure into the soil for a spring planting. Since I always have a ready supply of horse manure, it's added to the compost, which in turn aids in the speed of decomposition.
I'm very fortunate also, to have a local extension from Texas A&M Univ near by, and for a nominal fee, have each batch of my compost analyzed. It is mostly comprised of huge supplies of fall leaves, grass clippings, some kitichen refuse, and of course horse poop.
This fall perhaps, I'll start a pictorial essay of my start to finish rapid compost method. I have two side by side 4'x4'x4' compost bins, that when I begin to layer with material; I'll also set 4' lengths of 2" pvc pipe with many holes drilled into them. I set these about ten inches apart, with about ten inches of material set vertically. The pipes allow the much needes oxygen to enter the various levels, and if the compost begins to dry, a quick shot of the garden hose into each pipe, will quickly restore the internal moisture. I've found that this reduces the amount of 'turning' necessary, and once one does turn it, decomposition is at an accelerated rate...B

have to agree w/ Brussels on this, most manures are way too hot (release nutes quickly) for direct use...use sparingly as an ammenity, or to make a weak tea, or add to compost and let it degrade before use...overfertalization is so common and I have yet to see any underfert posts

I've never used fresh guano or poop or whatever you wanna call it.
I do however love making a tea from super swell bat guano.
I also mix the bat guano into my soil when I do my last transplant, just prior to flowering. You can even sprinkle some on top of your soil after flowering.
Bat guano and bone meal are my favorites!
Peace

Here in Canada, we don't have has much bat poop, vid! LOL! Sorry, couldn't help it.
I mixed into the lots of soil for my outside plants sea creature compost, sheep manure and for the last lot some cow manure as well. My clones with the cow manure are doing the best. I also added bone meal, FF american pride (for the bat guanno videoman!) and a couple tbls. blood meal. This was enough for 6 gal or more of soil per plant, when mixed into a bale of promix. 3 plants per bale w/one smaller bag of each manure added. The difference is that this is already composted. Not hot or fresh by any means. Fresh has to sit for a season and get rained on, to release the amonia, and / or get pasturized before use.
They just love it, and no burning. The first lot if anything I might side dress with more manure as the promix was the shits.

makes sense that your clones with cow manure are doing well, it's supposed to help root development, the reason I started this thread is for when I go to Brazil, i'm sure there will be no botanicare, fox farm, etc, there will be hover tons of manure of every kind! and guano im sure and molasses for sure (they have more sugar cane then they know what to do with it) so since my dad lives down there, I figured i'm gonna help the old man out and get him some beans from up here, and help him get started...but im pretty sure were gonna be 100% organic as theres really no big brands down there and if there is its prop import from usa or something and really expensive, plus manure is pro better, just gotta know how to use it, and not mind the smell haha
so how many parts soil to manure do you guys use?
and thats awesome that you can take your compost to get tested! what do they tell you? " your shit looks good" hahaha jk :D
thanks

I usually use about 50-50 manure and soil. Of course, if the soil is low in organic matter you will also need to add leaves, grass, and other veg based organics. Half greens (hi nitrogen live stuff) and half browns (dead, dried up stuff) if you need extra organics. I always add extra just for the trace elements and water retention, regardless of the condition of the soil. Let it ferment for 6-8 months with a good mixing every 2 wks. Keep it pretty moist but not saturated as it cooks. At the end you have excellent organic soil that will probably not need any extra ferts at all.

btw: your trimmings would make good green stuff!!

What about cow manure that is put into a strainer and soaked in your water while it bubbles overnight to get rid of the chlorine?
It might be a smelly tea, but I would think it would be good for plants, no?

It has to be aged, not fresh. Fresh manure has a lot of amonia in it. Yes, if it is aged and weathered or composted, it is fine. Does make a good tea. Google it or look in the FAQ.
Peace
