Transplanting some clones

Thought I would document my transplanting method. I saw a similar way, somewhere, but not sure where.

I have had the clones in 12 ounce cups for about 4 weeks, making a nice little root system.

The soil mix is based on Videoman's organic recipe. It is a very easy, inexpensive, and effective mix.

The ingredients that I use: Hyponex soil-40# bag, Perlite-about 10qt., worm castings-10# bag, Bone meal-about 1 cup, a couple tablespoons of lime.

I mix it up in a big Rubbermaid tub. It takes quite a while to mix, as the Hyponex is quite moist and has to be worked with the perlite. I do this like I cook. I don't use recipes, except as guidelines. I put in however much of whatever I feel is right.

I am using 3 gallon bags. The soil mix is added to a depth of about 3 inches. Then, I set a cup in the center and add soil around it until it is about 1/2 inch from the top of the cup. Take the cup out and replace it with a clone, just removed from its cup. After vegging in the cup for a few weeks, the root mass holds its shape quite well.

Firm the soil around the roots, remove any leaves or small shoots at the bottom inch or so of stem, and add soil to a point just above the level at which it had been growing.

Water well and place plants under the lights. I have these about 3 1/2 feet from a 400w HPS. I'll move them closer in a couple days. They had been under cfl's and tubes, so I don't want to burn them.

Hey Pappy,

At what point do you take the clones out of the humid clone dome and add the soil mix to the red cups?

Got several clones showing a few roots through the peat pellets, I dont want to put put them in the soil to early, but on the flip side I dont want the roots getting light and going bad from sitting in the beer cups within the clone dome..

Hey Sock,

If the roots are visible, go ahead and put them in the cups. Have the soil moist, but not soggy. In a very few days, they will show surprising growth.

Sounds good Pappy, one last question (for now.....) do you put the beer cups with soil mix back into the humid dome for a few days to help with transition or just take em out into the real world?

IF there is room, leave them in for a day or two. Keep the dome propped up a little, to get ventilation, and keep the humidity raised a bit. It is so humid here, that I don't need the dome this time of year.

Got ya... Yeah it is humid here as well, but keep the AC kicking which drops the humdity in the house.

I put the ones that are showng roots back into the dome (with soil) for now and will take them out for the 6hr night cycle and see how they look in the A.M. I dont think they will need much in the dome, just a little transition so the roots know to start feeding off the soil..
