Rep Power: 19 | | R.I.P. Matilda and Samson
I am sorry to inform everyone that matilda and samson have been murdered. You see I had two wonderful spiders in my grow room providing insect patrol, but after my roommates found out about them...they were killed. The spiders did not bother anyone, in fact they provided a great service, eating bugs. Unfortunately, arachnophobia has reared its ugly head.
It is stupid some people don't see the big picture. Using nature against/to help itself is the key to organic gardening. The spiders were not hurting anyone; just wish I had never told anyone about them.
Does anyone else use spiders? Or was I wrong. I know ladybugs are a gardeners friend...so I can't be that far off.

Yes, large spiders are carnivores and do eat smaller bugs, and flies. Sorry about that, but maybe find a couple more outside and reintroduce them to your grow. This time MUM is the word!

Yeah.. spiders are cool in my book. I have had them in my grow space, and always leave them be.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your protectors!

Sorry to hear about Matilda and Samson...Some people dont think before they act...I have a few lil spiders in my veg closet and they scamper around as I do my do and dont cause any harm so it's live and let live as far as I am concerned...The only Spiders I eliminate rather than relocate are SpiderMites.

I'd go for lady bugs if you want a predator. I don't want spider webs in my buds. Plus I have enough spiders creeping around my house biting me at night when I sleep much less seeing them crawling around the garden. But whatever floats your boat. |

Rep Power: 113 | | I have a serious anxiety problem with spiders! I don't have anything in my grow except for a couple fungus gnats here and there and cinnimon sprinkled on the top layer really keeps them in check so far. And having any bugs in my bedroom freaks me out! But spiders are the worst for me...uhg the thought of them makes me squirm! I kill them but if I knew someone who actualy wanted them in their garden I suppose I could catch it and send it to them lol Na, I'd have someone else do that part while I was in another room trying to not think about it lmao! I especially hate when they get in my car and dangle in front of me, makes me almost get in accidents!! | | The Following User Says Thank You to sabasi For This Useful Post: | |

we keep ladybugs on our girls... and an occasional praying mantis will also eliminate bug issues. Both are beneficial insects.

Shame to hear about your spiders being murdered, some people on this earth have no respect for life even that of a little spider going about it's business, live and let live i say, also what was wrong with just catching them and letting them go outside did that thought even cross their tiny minds?? i doubt it.
Peace and light

Not that I can grow yet here in PA but when I had my card in HI and kept my babies out on the deck I would always relocate the ladybugs over there. Praying mantis' kick ass if you can find 'em, they'll guard your plants like they owned 'em.

Well whomever killed them should know it is bad luck to kill a spider. This should be taught at an early age . DO NOT lKill spiders you can relocate the back outside. Sorry about your loss.

I've been saying this my whole life. Spiders are our friends. Sorry to hear about your loose
I live in an old farm house so I share the house with many small creatures.
Spiders and lady bugs are always welcomed to keep the 'pests' in line.
My cat Orlando keeps the mice at bay.
In my veg room is where the spiders and lady bugs like to hang the most, so that room is almost insect free. Now if I could get them to hang out in the flower room more maybe I wouldn't have the gnat problem there like I do.
