| If you are into organic gardening, then you will most likely already know that fish and seaweed emulsions are some of the best natural fertilizers available in the world. If you want healthy organic bud then you should consider using fish and/or seaweed emulsion as your fertilizer of choice. So why should you make your own fish or seaweed emulsion instead of purchasing it in stores? For one thing, it’s cheaper to make your own emulsion. Also there are fewer nutrients in store bought fish emulsion because they use trash fish and fish bones. This version has less protein and fewer fish oils than if you were to use fresh fish parts. The first step in making fish or seaweed emulsion is to set up a compost of fresh fish or seaweed or both, in a bucket that can be closed tightly. Fill the bottom half of the bucket with leaves, sawdust, or straw. Adding molasses will speed up the decomposition process and will help to control the smell of dead fish. It is important that you stir the mixture daily in order to speed up the decomposition process and to also improve the microbial growth in the emulsion. Continue this process of stirring the emulsion for a minimum of 2 weeks. If you would like to increase the sulfur content of your emulsion then you can add a couple tablespoons of Epsom salt to the mix. After 2-3 weeks of this process your emulsion is ready to be added to your regular compost pile. You are also ready to make an emulsion tea. When brewing your tea it is a good idea to let it brew for about a week making sure you stir it up every few days. You know the brew is ready when it has a yeasty type smell. It also might have a layer of foam on top of the tea. Dilute the emulsion with a 1:5 ratio of water. This can then be used as a foliar feed or a soil drench. A soil drench of emulsion is most beneficial for a plants root system while foliar feeds improve the nutrients to plants leaves. The whole process of making your own fish emulsion will take several weeks and will smell quite bad. It is a good idea to keep your fish compost outside or in a well-ventilated area. Your plants will thank you greatly for adding fish emulsion to their soil.

| Hey SHAMAN, How do you prepare the fish and how much fish do you put in the bucket. This seems like something I could do. I have a small river right next to my compost pile. Lots of small fish. Thanks, Pappy

| Just chop it up in to small pieces (blender works great), how much do you want in the end is how much to use off the start.

| Sounds almost like the way I used to make Fish oil for trapping (mink love it!). Then, I took a few oily fish and chopped them into half a dozen pieces, then dropped in the bucket along with a cup of molasses. Make a vent tube out the top with a piece of small hose (so it doesn't explode) and then BURY IT for about 6 months, with the vent hose poking out through the soil. You end up with fish paste and oil...great for raccoons and mink alike. ISO
