Default Edges of leaves turning yellow, drying. Also, have nutrient/watering question

I noticed this morning that one of my lowryders leaves are starting to turn yellow and those leaves are crispy if I squeeze them. This is the first problem ive had with these. Ive been using foxfarm ocean forest for my soil and used Tigere Bloom and big bloom the last two weeks. (Each Watering). The guy at foxfarm told me it was actually lack of nutrients, since it was happening to the older leaves. Im using a 600W HPS. Could somone please help me on this?

Also, my plants are in 2 gallon pots, and Ive only been watering them about once a week. I was told to let soil get completely dry, then water. The guy at foxfarm said this is way to long to go in between watering...anyone could advise?

Also, how often should I use nutes? He said, that if I only water once a week, using nutes everytime is OK, but if I start watering every 3 days or so, I should use nutes every other watering.

Please help this noob, thanks!!

Yes, that is indeed too long to go in between waterings like that. I think your plants are simply too dry. When you water, take the amount of water, maybe half the container size, and water it well around the edges until it comes out the bottom. This forces the roots to go to the side of the pot for moisture and better use that pot of soil, rather than just staying in the center. If the water is not absorbed into the soil when you water this way, this means the soil is over dry and has no surfactant in it, which will make it repel the water, rather than absorb it. Then you can either use a product like SM-90 to aid the absorbtion or let the plant sit for a short time in the runnoff. The soil will then uptake the water better. Make sure you do remove the runnoff after that as mj does not like to sit in water. Your problem is most likely underwatering. Also, when you start using nutes, only use 1/4 recommended dose to start until you know how the plant reacts to the nutrients. You can also take one of your pots, same size, and fill it with your soil. Feel the wieght of it, then next time your plant feels this light, you will know it needs a good watering. Then let it dry out between waterings. A watering meter, cheap from any garden store or home depot will help as well. Then you can stab the soil and it will tell you if it is dry or still moist under the top.

Default Plant Surfactant

I actually noticed that part about the surfactant before, one of my house plants was a pain to keep watered and every time I gave it water most of it would run out the bottom of the pot... it took forever.

Well predictably it started having problems. So I decided to give the plant a good soaking with a foliar spray and its companion surfactant to keep it alive. In doing so it soaked into the soil as well, and solved my problem getting the watering to work properly.

So you can use just about any surfactant you can think of to treat problems getting your soil to really soak up water. I did it with Advanced Nutrients' Wet Betty, worked great.
