We've had three frosts so far and mine are still going strong. The plants I have out are hashplants, northern romulan, kushberry, b.c widow (little mold on main bud so i harvested, saved most), widowkush (grow really well here), early sativa (don't recommend), and some unknown seeds which grew surprisingly fast . . . sure wished i had planted them sooner. We've had hail here with heavy winds, heavy rains, even wet snow and they are still going strong. I did cover them up with clear plastic bags of various sizes. The bucket plants were put under big clear bags. I wrap the corners of the bags around branches and then twisted Velcro strap around them to make sure they stayed. Then I placed the bucketed plants within the bags and tucked the ends under the buckets. I had no cases off mold. Originally I didn't tie the ends to branches but got paranoid that so much of the plants were smudged against the plastic leading potentially with mold.
Now the stuff I got in the ground. Here's what I did, I do not know if this is why the killer frost didn't affect them but I can say my regular garden was annilated from the frost, including my tomato plants. See, when I dug my holes for the plants, I did not level the dirt back with the rest of the ground. Left it bowl-like to retain more water. I used this to my advantage, I put a layer of leaves in there and then put some semi-composted matter there. Then packed more leaves over that. Every morning we had frost, that area was not frosted, not hard. One morning I could actually see steam coming from one plant, I don't exactly what that was about. My only concern was animals coming along and digging up everything but it hasn't happened. Then again, with deer/skunk/raccoon repellent and my dog crapping and urinating in that area, and me urrinating, not much wildlife crosses through there.
Anyway, thought I share that.
Now my concern is we're supposed to get 20 ml of rain today and tomorrow. Ick.
Here's my grow long, at the bottom some photos are pictured. You will see the grounded plants have bags around them too, smaller bags, that I tied at the bottom of the stems with velcro straps. Did this every night last week due to rain and frost. I did not do it when the plants were wet. That is a no no. You will discover, if you do this, that in the morning after a frost, the plants will be damp, but not iced like everything else.
