Hello and peace to all. I have posted with regard to my virgin attempt at a grow on organics. I was wondering: how long from the time that the trichs turn white do they start to amber? When should I prepare to harvest? I am a total noob and any advice would be SO very appreciated.

okay, first off, what type of weather are you having there? Is this an outside grow? I think it is if I remember correctly. If you can post a pic, that would help a lot. It depends very much of what type of high you like. I like a cerebral, energetic high. Once I see the trichs cloudy, I start harvesting. A bit of amber is all I want. Some folks wait longer as they like more of a couch lock. Remember also the trichs will continue to rippen after you pick it. If you have no idea then I advise you to pick a small bud and dry it in the mircrowave and smoke it. Microwave steam drying
If you like that stage of developement, there ya go, pick them. If it is getting cold where you are then I would say pick them as if you wait, they might not grow any more due to the cold. If there is still warmth there then harvest the ones that are ripe and let the rest grow a bit longer.

Greetings FarmGirlMedic,
Harvestings IS the tricky part of growing, When depends on what kind of effects you are looking for... cloudy will produce an up and energetic effect. 25-50% amber will start to give you an up/dreamy effect and over 50% amber will get to the couchlock effect. When they start to turn amber is strain and environment factors dependant. We here at GP recommend a handheld microscope (available at Radio Shack) to monitor the trichs and help in determining when to chop em down. Jangel put it succintly, harvest that which is ready (cloudy/amber/mostly amber), and let the lower branches get to your favorite effect before harvesting. Any questions feel free to ask, anyone here will assist you. Luck and Life

Remodeling a home sure is time consuming... I miss not being able to visit a lot more often and sticking around for longer periods. Hopefully it will be getting better the more I get done on the house. We now have 2 bedrooms completed and the final bedroom and bathroom will be next. Then we have all the wood floors to do as a final act. Then it's up for sale, and we are outta here. Even tho I despise cold weather, we are considering moving to Canada. I found out that Canada only requires one to speak english or french, know a little about your government process, and have no felony warrents or problems, to become a citizen. And live and work in Canada for 2 years prior to applying for citizenship. Itty bitty hoops to jump through. We are stoked Our love to you and yours.

Actually I got a handheld...it is awesome. The trichs are cloudy/milky. The weather here is freakin' epic.... 70-80 by day and 50's at night. I personally am a self acclaimed tedious stoner... I love to work on my place and exercise and build stuff... so I think probably going with the cloudy will be my focus. Jangel, I am working on posting pics but have had some problems... I took the pics with my phone and I don't think the format is supported on this website... DRAT! Will be getting a digital cam ASAP. I am eternally grateful for the advice I have received on this site. Y'all have been exceptionally gracious!

Not to mention the great healthcare system! I hear it's great up there.

One more thing. How much of her should I harvest at a time to keep from shocking her?

Just the ripest buds, hon, near the top. I have several I have harvested and have put back into veg. Sometimes they do shock and you can't save them. But most often if you leave 1/3 they will come back and reveg. But for your endeavor, just go bud by bud, and harvest as they are where you like them.
Thanks for the prop on the site! Yes, Canada has medical care but it still is not perfect. At least we do not have to sell our houses if we get sick. I would think that would destroy you. No home and a debt load to boot.
Peace
