Rep Power: 53 | | Prune or top?
As of now the outdoor plants I have are well over 18 inches tall, and very tall, like they're trying to reach for the sun, trying to get out of the ferns and other foliage/camouflage. The slugs are attacking many bottom leaves so, thankfully they seem tall enough to handle it. So much rain just waters away the pellet bait. Can't keep with the bait due to my location is far far from home. Anyway, at this point I am trying to decide which is best, pinching and then bending the top part over, or topping/FIMing it? Any suggestions?
Something I've come upon is apparently coffee grounds is an excellent slug/snail repellent. Better yet, from this site: http://www.plantea.com/slug-baits-coffee.htm
""... 1 to 2 percent caffeine solution killed nearly all the slugs and snails within two days. Concentrations as low as 0.01 percent put the pests off their dinner. A cup of instant coffee contains about 0.05 percent caffeine, and brewed coffee has more.""
So bending or topping? I need my girlfriend's medicinal oil as easy as possible, with less plants, less chance of getting caught.
Thanks for any suggestions.

i prefer to top just because it gives more branches and makes more bud, another slug repellant is to take a can cut off both ends bend one end over and put that around your plant, slugs and snails cant get over the sharp outward facing bend.

so where do u pinch at? i hear of people pinching, then bending. others tell me to pinch off the tiny hair-like leaves between the nodes, others say don't pinch off, just twist it a little. aaaaaaaaaahhhhh Quote:

I like bending the over... less stress .. nice results... seaweed works great for keeping slugs away.. copper wire.. just make a ring around the bottom of the plant ... slugs hate copper.. and seaweed

You can wash the seaweed in fresh water to remove some of the salt.. so as not to hurt your plants ... then I like to chop it up a little... but you need to have access to the ocean

i pinch anywhere along a node where i see small leaves forming, but i also love to pinch the top growth off.

thanks guys. so let me get this straight, where there is a ""Y"", and tiny tiny leaves coming up, I just pinch in that area? So if I took some tweezers and gently pinched where those tiny leaves are within the ""Y"", or internodes, more branches will shoot out? Thanks!
