Default Placing buckets in water source like swamp/bog

People have suggested this to me because water wouldn't be an issue. But I WONDER if putting 5 gallon buckets in a swamp (shallow end which is basically mucky) would lead to root rot? There are some excellent swamp/bog areas in my parts where the ferns are tall, along with bushes, they just seem to thrive in there.

any way you could run an air pump in the bucket with a little batterie and a solar charger?
the roots need oxygen.

Too complicated for me. I can say this, in one of those black trays you can put jiffy potted seedlings in, well it's been outside with tomato plants and peppers that are in 4 inch pots. It's either half or entirely full of rain water for the last month and they're growing fine. Shrugs

well sure they are.
so are the ones i have not got in yet.
however rainwater in a plant flat is not the shallow end of a swamp.

heck give them a shot and do a grow report for green passion on it.
you just might be onto something.

hey dez, swamp growing is a delicate thing, yes putting them in the water directly will lead to root rot, but if you can get onto the semi soft ground around the swamp, or even better an island in the swamp, you should be fine, ive had great results from using that method, just make sure the soil is only damp and not mud or you still face the problem of root rot.

Hi, so did you drill holes into bottom of the bucket in the same manner as a flower pot, or did you drill some holes on the side? I was thinking when it is wwatering time, one could just dip the bucket into the swampy water and let the roots suck it up, then place it back along the edge of the swamp?

i put the holes around the bottom rim, and on the bottom, but also would pour about a half gallon into the top.
