Rep Power: 0 | | Ok I Screwed Up! Ok Guy's. I was in the Deep patch yesterday morning early checking my Plants. I had one plant that was kinda dry so I took my bucket to go down to the Lakefront and grab a bucket of Water.( the Lake water is Spring fed and is nearly Ph Perfect!) Well as stupid is I stepped to the bank and dipped my bucket in to fill it up and well it happened so dam fast I really never even knew it. I had disturbed a Cottonmouth Snake and he struck me in the right forearm and hung on. My forearm was pouring blood all over and he was now wrapped around my arm and fangs sunk into my forearm. As a result of my reaction of trying to jerk him off me his fangs ripped into my forearm even more making long rip type bites. I had to actually take a minute and move him around so his fangs would come out of my arm. Kind of like if youve ever had to dig a fishhook out of your hand or anywhere else. Well anyway I carefully unhooked his fangs and was just about to twist his neck apart and the thing slipped out of my bloody wet hand and right into the dam waters edge and guess what? He dissapeared and I mean like lightning! Well now I realize I have been bitten very badly and my luck a venomous snake! I walked (with my bloody arm above my head) back to the tractor and climbed on to get going back to the house(which is more than a 1/4 mile away!) After a few minutes I suddenly became ICE cold and when I grabbed a towel to wrap it I began feeling a serious tightness in my chest like someone was actually standing on it. I jumped into my little Eclipse and headed the 20 miles to a Hospital. Other than the pain in my arm and the cold I was experiencing the feeling in my chest really bothered me. By the time I had nearly reached the Hospital I was noticing that it was becoming harder for me to catch my breath and I was very shaky. Well as even more of my luck would have it they had NO Antivenom! They had to have it flown from a large city north of here. Four Hours! later I had an antivenom I/V going. I have to give it to the ER docs and Nurses though they really cared for me. So today has been very bad. A severe headache all day, constant cold sweats and a ton of dizziness and nausea. In a nutshell, I made a mistake and I have to pay attention more closely. Wasn't a long snake or anything but he was big enough to get me with no problem. He might have been 4' long but he was about an inch and a half in diameter and trust me I had peed him off somethin fierce! Ok i'll take the Groundhogs anyday over these dang things. Peace and Be Careful Guy's, Med

Get well soon, babe. So sorry to hear about this.
Just another thing to add to a list that makes you a certified bada**. Even Steve Irwin was afraid of cottonmouths, if I remember right. He said that they have a strong strike, and hang on like hell. And those freekers are deadly.
Sending good vibes your way.

now that's what I'd have to call a real bad day! good thing you kept it together, sounds like that could have gone far worse.
I often say "I have the worst luck, but excellent timing"... feel free to adapt it, sounds like it could fit you too.

Oh My GOD! Med! How the h do you ward those off in future? Wear boots on your arms? Man oh Man you are lucky!
Put some of the oil on the wound med, it will help it heal with no infection. And keep taking it buddy. Maybe increase your dose a bit to deal with the toxins in your system.
I will try and call you later today, sweetie.
Just know you are loved, and yes, You are a Bad A s s! Super man ! Beats Cotton mouth! I am so glad there are nothing but garder snakes around here....at least that I know of.
Peace

Unfortunately cottonmouths are one of the few types that WILL get aggressive and ward you out of their home, trying to scare them away might actually make them chase you. where-as a rattlesnake, while much more venomous will strike quick(after warning you very loudly) and run while you are preoccupied with the holes and in your leg/arm. Be carefull because copperheads(another type of rattler) are also aggressive in this same way as cottonmouths, but usually only guerilla growers need to be wary of any type of rattlesnake. I hope you get better, and watch yourself for pain extending from those bites, because the neurotoxic effects of the venom can damage nerves in your arm and lead to nerve pain that will only decrease after months/years. Hope all is well once everything heals.

Rep Power: 0 | | I followed jangels advice and have been rubbing Oil into the bite area.(and yes it is absolutely a horrible bite) The swelling and some of the redness and irritation have supressed. Blows any Cotizone cream away in my opinion. Thank you jangel and everyone else for your warm thoughts and kindness. Geez what next????????????????????????? Is mother nature telling me perhaps I should stick to my little Closet? Peace and thanks again, Med

Med, I was going to suggest that you lock yourself in the house for awhile. Last week the airplane and this week the snake. You might be pushing your luck buddy. If you want to be chosen as the test subject you'll need to remain in one piece.
