I was wondering how native plants on the equator know when to flower as the day / night ratio is always so close to being even. I asked a local this last time I was in Negril and he told me the plants just know.
Thanks for any replies to my baked question.

Hi there,
Plants know when they are ready to transmit genes (natural survival). Light time, weather, many other things will give the plants an indication if it is time to flower or not
Peace

cannabis has a knack for adaptation, youll notice this if you outdoor grow successive generations of a plant in your local environment. after some years of using the same genetics over and over it will adapt to its new location.
inherantly in your question could be the answer as to why sativas are difficult to 'tame', they react to subtle changes in the lights, hermie frequently etc. so maybe yeh, they know because they have adapted to recognize thos small changes in light spectrum and daylight hours... equatorial landrace strains are almost exclusively sativas. they have long flowering times because the seasons permit it. so in fact they have adapted to the new environment.
yes sir, its a very successful plant.
i probably didnt answer your question, but you question got me thinking..
