Default Ants

Hello everyone,
I grow in 3 1/2 gallon buckets level with the ground because my soil outdoors is so alkaline. I happened to discover that a red ants nest moved into one of the pales on one of my female plants. They don't seem to bother her but I have to water all the time, 1 gallon every 2 days. Does anyone know how to get rid of them or just water all the time?

The ants grab the jelly laden borax and haul it home, killing the nest?

if they arent hurting the plant i would leave them, they are probably helping keep problem pests away.

i agree with moonbiscuit on this.

the borax is carried back to the brood chamber and dries out the colony.
it does work but the earth needs ants just not everywhere they want to be.

another pest remedy is 1/4 cup of joy soap(not detergent)per gallon of water.
sprayed or poured it will encapsulate insects, smothering them and the saop is back to elements soon.

way better than the 25 bucks a pop can of chemicals folks buy and squirt.

Give the Aardvark a tea kettle of hot water and teach him to pour it on the buggers...

Give them some Malt O Meal. When they eat the stuff it expands and jacks the ants. Artficial sweetners work too. I would leave them but what happend when you are ready to harverst and you have to fight the ants to get to your buds and what if they decide to expand to another pot. I myself am a nature lover but I would off the litlte critters sooner rather then later. Good Luck!

High MB.. dank...

I'm not sure where dank is at but if they are the same red ants that are here in Florida.. you want them gone.

They may or may not present a problem for the plants, I do not know.. but I for one (and it isn't uncommon) have a very bad reation to their bite.. and they do BITE, allot. Little buggars are visicous and if you happen to let a bunch of them get on you and start biting, their combined venom is enough to kill a person.. anaphylactic schock!

I use Over and Out (HomeDepot) for them on my lawn.. they don't do so good in DWC.. lucky me!

Cheers
