Rep Power: 43 | | When and how do I take clones
Hi Folks, I'm looking for your experience and your opinions on the best time and method for taking clones. As the plants are doing so well I thought it would be a good idea to clone them and therefor have a constant supply of a working painkiller for the misses.Cheers Tumnus

You do not know if your plants are girls or boys yet hon. Or do you? usually it is best to wait until they grow alternating leaves. Then you sex them and put them back in veg and then take clones. Here is a post on it in my journal but there are many posts on cloning. This is just what works for me. Rep Power: 43 | | Thanks j-angel thats a great help. Somebody told me recently to take clones and put THEM into flower to sex my plants so as not to screw up the plants natural life cycle. What do you think, have you heard of doing it that way,or do you know of anyone whose done it? Cheers T.

Hi Mr. T....many do something like that...all you have to do is be sure to idenitify...perhaps with a sharpie on the container...what clones came from what donor...when the donors show their sex later, you know what clones are female. No need to keep raising the male clones unless you want them for breeding It's faster and less stressful then putting the donors in and out and them back into flower. Some do it this latter way to ensure they are taking female clones, but I don't recommend it, as it is slower and more stessful.

Cheers Scott,my plants have got one or two alternating leaf nodes already so I'll give it a week or so and take a few clones using the methods i've read about here.Any ideas on how many I should take to be sure I get some viable plants? Thanks T.

as soon as there are 2 nodes (so 2 sets of serrated leaves) up and past the waster leave stage you can start to take cuttings (well you start that way with a single clone and train the seed plant into something really bushy as for every cutting you take t2 new shots will grow) and that can be done till you send the donator plant into flower, once you flower them it is getting hard to get cuttings to root and you cut away bud sites as well.
check the attached pictures, as soon you reached that stage you see in the first one can cut clones - little trick: enlarge the distance between lights and plants a bit to get them stretching up so you got more stem to work with. the second picture shows the effect of taking cuttings for cloning - two new shoots grow up as replacement for the cutting you took.

also its best to take new shoots for clones as larger longerlived shoots tend to be more woody and harder to clone

here's a link to Amazon where they have them singly or in 3 packs, lol.
and you won't have to worry when they are delivered, lol, not like seeds. Amazon.com: ice tube tray | | The Following User Says Thank You to justanotherbozo For This Useful Post: | |

I just cut them, stick them in root powder, then stick them in wet soil. 95% root within two weeks.
It doesn't get much easier than that.

It doesn't get much easier than that. | i've tried that myself with dismal results, lol. ...i've actually gotten better
results just taking cuts and putting them in cups of water, lol, like a house
plant.
i imagine mine didn't take because i either let them get too dry, too
cold or hot, or too wet, lol.
the key with cloning is persistence, each of us must find a way that works
for us, and always be willing to try new things.
anyway, i know i'm not telling you anything you don't already know, lol.

Lads,av got a different question closely related to the thread...av already managed to clone a plant and I'd like to figure out how to make it happen a bit faster.what I mean is it took me 4 week at best to get them rooting in soil.I didn't pay too much attention to them I must say, cloned them outside in regular soil, sprayed with water several times a day and removed from the sun.what I learnt that(maybe it'll be useful to someone ) :
-Clonex gel is very very poor and my clones needed "re-filling" along the stems with Clonex+water every 2-3 days.I can't really explain this but plants seemed to feel a bit better every time I gave them gel.
-rooting stems need oxygen! seems like dramatic discovery but initially I missed that bit thinking that they can get what they want from the soil like the regular plants.they can't
anyway,I'd like to know how to speed up rooting.the breeder says that strain shoud root in 5-10 days so am quite off the track with 28days.how to do this? (water cloning didn't work for me,I killed all the lot).cheers.
