it can take only hours sometimes or it takes days, the only safe way is to check them constantly in that last period.

Rep Power: 201 | | Some plants won't turn amber, if the trichs start leaning over and getting thinner, that's another sign you've peaked. Remember, you only got yourself to please, the longer you wait, the more "stoner" the buds become. Peace. |

ATF is one that doesn't turn amber but I have to go be the trichs themselves. When standing up they are ready when they begin to lean the thc is degrading.

In my opinion amber trichs (trichs not tricks for trichomes) are more of a myth than fact. We grew six strains and only one developed amber trichomes of any kind and I know they weren't picked too early.

That's a hint by itself. |

A lot of confusion has developed over the amber trichome theory. That's what I like about this site... there are a lot of people here that just don't accept everything they hear. There is actually an attempt to verify rumors.
We harvest by the appearance of the bud. Just like you can look at an apple and tell if it's a good one or not. When the flowers "pop" I wait about another week or two and then take 'em. What I mean by "pop" is the bracts swell up and nearly swallow up the pistols. The girth of the bud almost doubles in size because of the swelling of the bracts. You know you are getting close now. Sure we look at the triches at this point because you don't want to see them degrade. Once you notice them breaking down... (leaning or shriveling) I think they have gone past prime picking. I don't think it is as crucial as people make it out to be. An over ripe apple tends to be a bit sweeter than an apple in it's prime. Same with a bud... it just makes it sleepier.

Cutting back the water right before harvest helps tighten the bud up and helps drying. This is according to Jorge Cervantes. I think he is right. The bud tightens up some and of course shrivels a tad when deprived of its normal intake of water.
