Default Total Darkness?????

Hello my good friends,

This may be a stupid question but I am in need to gain some knowledge from some of the smartest peeps on the planet that be you...lol

I have my grow cabinet in a room that has a shaded window (cream color mini blinds). My cabinet has a 3.5 inch intake and a 3.5 inch exhaust both are covered with a PVC drain cap for the grill and both have fans. The only light that would be in the room would be from the window with the blinds on it. My question: Will the amount of light that enters through the two 3.5 inch holes hurt the 12/12 flower cycle. If so, how could I get around this? Was thinking of taping black paper over the outside of the exhaust and on the inside of the other so when the fans were not running they would close. Do you think I am making to big of a deal over the small amount of indirect lighting that will enter into this 3'x3'x4' cabinet?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi madman. First off, any light that comes in from the outside during the dark period will harm your plants, especially if it is consistantly not totally dark, this is called light poisening and your plants will hermie. What I used in my window and on my vents to make them not only stealth but to block light leaks is available cheaply and will allow air to come through but not light. Any paper would cause problems. It is a cloth like material that is used under mulch in gardens and available at any nursery or most likely any place with a garden section. It is called landscapeing fabric, works perfect. You get a roll of it for cheap, some places might even have it by the yard. Hope that helps you.

I really don't want to start any trouble, but, light leaks, IMHO and experience, do not have a detrimental effect on MJ. If, the light leaking into the grow area is consistent in intensity and time, the plant will continue to do its thing the way it should. It is when the dark cycle is interrupted at varying intervals, that causes problems. I have a 6 x 15 ft. flowering room, with 2 doorways which I keep open for ventilation. I have a 4 x 4 ft. veg area just outside and on one end of flowering room. The veg area is lit for 6 hours longer than the veg area. I have experienced no ill effects.

Hey Pappy, no trouble! It is all learning and how can we know all experiances unless we have them? Actually, that is comforting to know. I always wondered about that as plants outside do get star light and city light from the natural night. Good to know bud!
