Default Topping and hermies.

Hi guys, how are you.I`d like to ask your opinion on side effects of topping the plant. I`ve got 5 feminised plants 3xMazar and 2xPP in the 2nd week of flowering.I topped them above the 5th nod in the 3rd week of veg and began flowering a day after.now, 3 plants - 1Mazar and 2PP turn out to be hermies. in my previous grow situation was similar with the difference that only PP turned hermie. Do you think that sex change may be due to the stress of topping? Has it ever happened to you? Can it be prevent by keeping the plant in veg for longer?or maybe it`s just bad genetics? I`m curious of your opinions.

How are you growing your plants and what is your temp range? Topping them does not usually turn them hermie that I know of, it is usually stress. And heat or cold or drying out too much or ph probs can cause it. Sometimes it is the variety or sometimes it is a trait of some feminized plants. I have heard it both ways, some say it does and some say it does not. Feminized seed is usually from plants fertilized by a hermie so I don't know.

Plants are flowered under 400HPS with optimal temp.and ph around 6.8 but the same thing happened with ph 7.4.nuts are 2-6-3,5 + 0-1-6 given half strength.interested thing is that whenever I had a problems with hermies it was always with sativa plants or indica/sativa where plants` pheno was more like sativa.I think that this time it`s more like bad seeds + their age - nearly a year old.I`ve changed recently my seedbank from dutch passion to nirvana cos dp don`t always deliver for the money they charge.
thanks Jangel

raf, take my word: topping does not create hermies.

but you say you using fem seeds and those seed quite often turn out to be hermies, just has a hint. next time buy normal seeds, you better off, believe me.

it takes weeks of abuse to turn a plants sex - just look at the one video been kicking around for month to turn it from a female to a full male.

the key here is the mentioning of fem seeds, which are either grown from natural or modified hermies - these female plants treaded with an hormone-active organic acid, a gibberellin acid, and then partly turn into "males" branch wise to pollinated a the female part of the plant - and all these seeds have a high tendency to repeat the process. this is why most hermies are grown from fem seeds or clones from fem seeds. in some strains it goes so far that at some point a genetic from a fem strain was crossed in and this habit of forming hermies is given along - which is the main reason for more hermies in the newer strains if you ask me.

Green, thanks a lot for that, I think that`s the problem.Av been using fem seeds from DP for over 3 years now and think it`s time to go natural. I had several problems before but my last two crops got wasted and I take it for a sign, hehe.Av ordered last week from Nirvana Bubblelicious and AK48 and had it shipped on last tuesday (they seem to be quick). Got my first professional soil, lovely nutes and really hoping for something good to happen.
Green, thanks a lot man, much appreciated help and good lesson to me.
