Default Old Dog new tricks

Hi
Been at this for 9 months now.
Made a lot of mistakes.
Received 10 WW from Amsterdam.
All 10 sprouted in 2 inch rockwool, htr and dome.
Planted in my little tray,
Veged for 5 weeks, flowered at 18 inches.
Remove 3 males, one exscapedd and polinated all the females.
Of course they all out grew my trays and head room, had a mess.
Managed to salvage about 2 oz of good stuff.
Second grow planted 25 WW clones.
In the second week of Veg, fan quit fried them all. Of coure I was gone for a day or 2 with the wife.
This time I did a lot of testing with a big old mother tree I had now.
Anyway ended up with 85 clones.
Added a small tray 21x21 inch to my 24x 41 inch tray, added some CFL's 2600k to each end to supliment my 400w Mh/Hps.
The tank is from Kmart 35 gal and an air stone and 150gpm pump from wally world.
A ph and ppm mtr and supernatural nues from the local hydro shop.
Planted all the clones,
Should have missed the veg part and went ot bloom.
Anyway they stretched to 30 inchs and stopped comps of "Bush Master"
Ended up pulling 24 week ones out.
Had about 56 plants left at harvest, a big old mess with lots of ugly under growth.
Have about 14 oz of dried bud, smokes heavenly.
Afer searching this site, I will do 85 again, but no veg this time.
Here are a few pics.
Enjoy

Welcome to Green Passion! Lots of similiar growers here. Take a browse around and look at the grow journals. We have 2 FAQ's. One from Overgrow and our own Green Passion one. Many great growers in hydro and soil. I am a dirt grower myself. Nice to have you here and great pics! We love pics here!

Hi ICE
Not sure what to call it LOL
Flood and drain to recycle?
I use the Hydroton rocks for a medium, easy to reuse (well almost easy)
I have a timer from Wally world 24 hr at 15 min intervals.
I have been flooding the tray twice a day for 15min.
Once when they wake up and once eight hours later for veg and flower.
I have a 35gal res. from Kmart and change the nutes every 2 weeks.
I don't have a lot of room, so I guess this is it.
I can plant abou 85 plants at 4 inch spacing.
Going to try it with no veging next time.
Have a 6inch extractor fan to a 6inch Big Blue Ionizer then to a home made 16x 16 x 16 inch x 4foot filter chamber.
Bought some 1 inch Activated Carbon filter material off the internet.
to cover the open side.
So far no smell, and this WW is really smelly
I have traided a WW for a (New?) The Church.
Going to try a few along with the WW next grow.
It may seem like over kill for me and the Wife, but have a son, crippled in motor cycle accident (parapalegic) and a few Viet Vets to look after.
Thanks for all the good info on this site.
It really cleared things up especially the part about Veging depending on how many plants per square meter.
I am going to try for the 9 plants per foot.
I like those center colas yum yum.
Now you really got this old man rambling.
Have not talked to anyone about it sense i started.

Life is a journey......not a destination

Hey Newfriend,Nice to have you here at GP.you are in the right place to talk about your grow and anything that comes to mine.I'am a flood&drain hydro guy myself and yes I do make mistakes too,but you learn from them.I say you are doing better then most that start at in hydro. You got your grow room setup and looks like it is running very well. After the clones are well rooted and growing you may want to flood your tray about every 4 to 5 hours.I flood every 4 hours around the clock. When you say you flood for 15 mins,is the pump running for the 15 mins and then it drains or is it flooded and drained in 15 mins? What you are doing is great and it is working for you, good job and I'am inpressed that you are doing so well the first time growing hydro.Geat job my newfirend you have done your home work. Anytime you need help or anything just hollar. PEACE

Hi
Wow!!! Thanks for the feed back.
I have 2 small trays.
1 is 24" x 41" the other is 21" x 21"
I have a T off the pump and the T or Y supplies Nutes to each tray
It takes about 3 min before they are both running Nutes out the overflow fitting back to the tank.
The pump runs continuously for the 15 minutes.
You raise a very good ? and only I know what I have gleened from the internet and manufacture of these kind of devises.

I thought feeding 2 times during the lights on was correct?
I also thought that you should not feed during the lights out ?
Would appreciat any advice on this subject.

I am also planting 60 plants in the one tray and 25 in the smaller one.

I know now that I should not have veged so long, 4 weeks.
Plants were close to 11 inches avg when I went to flower.
They are now (were) 30 inches.
I flooded them with fresh water and bush master for 2 days to stop the growth.
I harvested the tops after 9 weeks.
The buds were smallish but lots of them.
There was just as much buds left underneith, they were very pail and anemic,
I am letting them cook under the lights and seem to be getting some color back.
I plan on taking the new clones straight to flower when I place them on the trays.
I plan on keeping all side growth trimmed off and will do this up to the 3rd week of flowering
Many thanks in advance for your help
New

Hey new friend,The books say not to have your floods no longer then 15mins total.3 mins to flood and that's good. How long dose it take to drain all back to the res. That how you tell how long to run the pump.My pump runs 4 mins and it take 6mins to drain back.As long as the whole cycle flood to drain is no longer than 15 mins yoou are fine. Each tray takes longer or a shorter time to flood and drain,My flood pipe takes about 5 mins to flood and all drain back in 8 mins total of 13 mins.My flood tray in the cab 22x22x7 take 3 mins to flood and 5 mins to drain, total of 8mins. You are doing great, keep it up.Feeding in my flood pipe is every 4 hours and my cab is every 5 hours. They need a wetting in the night so they dont dry out to much. When the lights come they will feed and take water.Need more hollar. Peace
