hey guys i just finisheed my most recent harvest and am quite dissapointed with the yeilds.. i only avgd 1/2 oz per plant wen these plants typicaly produce 2-4oz ea easily.. the trics wer ripe so i know i wasn't early.. and the buds seemed pretty dence wen i cut em.. but wen i dried they all shrunk dramaticaly:( so i guess what i am asking is what am i doing wrong and how can i improve my setup?
i had 50 plants avg 3-4 1/2ft that i fim'd a bunch (some had 15 colas) .. i used coco fiber .. my buddy made me custom nutrients .. but what im thinkn the prob wass i only had 1 1000w hps and they wer all grouped tightly around it
so what can i do to ensure a fuller harvest nxt time? any tips or pointers would b great thanx
p.s il b using pro-mix on my next batch and 5gal grow bags

50 plants is too many. Also, you may need to transplant them into a larger growpots this time around. Sometimes less equals more.
I dont think you'll ever get 4oz's per plant, unless you are adding additional Co2.
The only times I've gotten 4 oz'swas when I added Co2.
Two oz's is a reasonable goal to reach per plant.
Look into those custom made nutes too.
Your friend had the knowledge to make custom nutes, but he didnt know how to grow weed properly? Maybe you should look for help elsewheres.
Some had 15 colas? They musta been awful small.

To get the most out of any plant, it needs ROOTS. Transplanting in several stages, to utilize the most of the medium as possible, is the key. My cuttings are started in peat pellets. After they are well rooted, they are transplanted into 16 oz. plastic cups. They are then transplanted into 1 gallon containers (plastic bags, in my case). They remain in the 1 gallon bags for the rest of the veg time, however long that may be. I place them into the flowering room (12/12) while they are still in the 1 gallon bags. They get transplanted into 3 gallon bags after 2 - 3 weeks of 12/12. They finish in the 3 gallon bags. Rule of thumb: 1 gallon of medium per 12 inches of plant height.
The plant needs lots of healthy roots to produce lots of leaf surface, which produces food to produce lots of flowers/bud.

You don't tell us the NPK of your nutes, size of pot, temperatures, air system, length of time vegged, type of plant, ages of plants. Etc.
You CAN grow 50 plants under a 1000 light. If you wish to grow budsickles. I have about 20 of them under a 400 watt light. 28 plants in all. But you will not get large yeilds off these plants. Just not enough light per plant. And the ones I grew where only in 1 gallon pots for the budsickles. I was not expecting a huge yeild for these, but I have gotten aprox. min. 1/2 oz off each, maybe more. I did it as an experiment, not for huge yeilds.
I would first off double your lights, and change your nutes. I would also check out your soil mix. JUST promix does not have all you need for your plants in it. You should also add to the mix for a total of 40% perlite. And as well add some dolimite lime, bonemeal and other items to the mix for bigger buds. There are many different mixes for growing in the organic section. Check them out.
Peace

ok well here are the details of this grow, ..
1- grown from seed started with 200 and ended with 50 after killing males and hermies
2-used coco fiber mixed with about a 1/2 cup perlite per 1gal pot
3-yes the friend that made my nutes has extensive experience in doing so but i only got veg nutes from him and used molasses for flowering along with 3-4-5 mixed in
4- avg temp of the room is 76 with lights on and 65 off
5-strain is titan 50/50 sativa/ indica
6- room is 10x10 but plants wer grouped in a 5x5 square
no co2,
1 1000w hps
1gal pots
started in beer cups
thank you for all the info sofar and i am gonna completely revamp everything.. would 2 1000w suffice in a 10x10 room or should i go with 4?
thanks again and plz keep the tips comming | | The Following User Says Thank You to Don krizzle For This Useful Post: | |

Yo Don
from what you wrote...I'm guessing this:
Part of your problem is the 1 gallon pots. As was mentioned earlier...you need roots for healthy plants that make big yields. In my garden I would go from seed into a 2" square pot. Everytime i see roots hitting the bottom of the container i upsize the container. The only exception to this is when I hit bloom. by this time i will be in THE size container I want to flower and finish in.
I go seed-to-2 x2 square-to the largest styrofoam "Solo" cup- to 1 gallon- to 2-3 gallon...and then if I'm really going with large plants into 18l (about 18 x 15 x 15") Tupperware tubs or 5 gallon buckets if there's height (and LIGHT) in the space for them.
Your chosen pots...1 gallon...would be sufficient for a clone grow or a seed grow with NO veg...but not for 3-4 ft tall plants. my guess is that they were stretched....4-6" between internodes..and sparse...kinda like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. Why? Because they didn't have enogh root mass to make a BIG plant...though they always WANT TO.
And yeah....50 plants is overkill....and in most areas...very dangerous in a legal sense. With 1000 watts you could do 4-6 plants in 3+ gallon containers that were 3 ft tall if you spun em all the time. Any more than that and nobody gets good lighting.
And s[peaking of...the second part I see that is limiting is your lighting.
20 sq ft is MAX for a 1000 watt lamp for bloom. (you want 50 watts per sq ft or more) The extra 5 sq ft in your current rooom certainly cost you a few buds and density overall.
therefore...if you were to go with 4- 1000's...you wouldn't want to do the entire 10 x 10....more like 9 x9...and SMALLER....
such a grow will require some whopping fans to exhaust heat out/bring cool air in.
It all depends on your wallet and the size of yer 'nads, really.
For what you have now....try 6 plants max. in 3 gal pots in a 4' x 5' space that you can keep @ 65-75F consistently. Vent out heat...bring in cool air/etc.
Go with peat and perlite...60/40....Sunshine mix....Roots Organic soil...or Ocean forest. (listed in order of how hot they are/how much organic matter is peresnt in the standard mix)
Find a balanced nute like General hydroponics Flora Series...use it every 3 waterings or 1/3 strength. (adjust the strength/ratios as directed)
Or...try their new Organic line. I hear good things.
Either way/no matter what pre-mix you buy...ditch the homemade nutes. "Something" isn't right and for $30-50 you can know that your nute ISN'T it.
In general
Bang em with 50+ watts per sq ft of lighting or more for fast/tight growth
Find a reputable nutrient and follow the directions/feeding schedules
keep temps below 80 and above 55
Only worry about pH and ppm in soil if you are on a well.
Use a quality soil mix that is well drained
do not overwater
hope that helps. Ask more specific qwuestions if you have em and someone will surely give you their knowledge/expertise
good luck
