Not worth the $$ IMO. I have a friend who tried this at his hydro shop, pepper plants side by side in adjacent grow tents, and the LED one just looked like crap in comparison. Same nutes, same soil, everything but the light.

JMHO, of course. Hid Hut is good people, so don't hold it against them, but from a performance standpoint the LED world is still lacking heavily.

Technology is a funny thing. I remember my very first digital camera.....I owned several computer stores at the time, and had to be on the leading edge of technology, I paid $1200.00 for a black & white digital camera that could hold a whooping 14 pictures.

I also remember paying $1100.00 for a 540 meg hard drive, this was the biggest hard drive made at the time.

Obviously a portion of my money paid went towards future R&D, now you can buy a cheap camera for about fifteen bucks, and 540 meg hard drives arent good for much more than a paper weight.

One problem with LED's is the quality control, and compare to what is available elsewhere the UFO is on the money. I can assure you of one thing, HIDHUT takes pride in what it sells.

I think LED's still need some more R&D before they are ready for prime time though.
Peace

It seems really expensive for LED lights. There just doesn't seem like enough material there to warrant $600 I would wait for the price drop too...

New technologies will have a hard time developing if there is not a consumer market for them...LED's have a market and may be the future....but I am not willing to be part of the vangaurd of the LED movement...I am going wait until they are better/cheaper than CFL or HID....could be soon but not now

But if I had more money than I knew what to do with...heck ya I would give it a try now just to play with it and for the curiosity/wow factor....

LEDs have still a long travel head till they can truely match a 400-600W HPS and these cheap pin-head type LEDs used in those "UFOs" won't do it for sure. a good salesman will sell you what you been asking for and if that is such LEDs - well here you go.

but Chiefa, before you waste you money get a good 400-600W HPS for a fraction of this useless LED kit and grow some of the finest with the HPS.

iw ould wait till it makes sense in the first place

current top notch LEDs get about 100lum/W if you can believe the specs and the price tag for those is somewhere between $30-1000 a piece besides that they need sometimes an active cooling that keeps them from burning up which will add to the cost and problems.

so lets see what the world has to offer besides LEDs in comparison: a normal 400W HPS puts out 50,000 lum leaving you with the need for at least 500 LEDs for in the best case whooping 15,000 bucks - buys you several HPS still and covers the hydro bill for the coming years too. and that is the point people miss with LEDs, they have potential for the future but right now are there far better option in power/light & price ratio and only some experimental characters play with them right now.

last night? me stoned? stoned as a rock!

besides, this issue is coming up each month at least once and it still will take some years till LEDs will become a match to an HPS in any form and i try to get this into the common knowledge finally.

LEDs are cool, they got huge potential and are already brighter then incandescent bulbs but it will take probably another 2-3 years till they become really interesting for growing. i'm simply tiered of salesman and some grower that fall for the first brag about a technology that can't deliver yet what they claim - especially if i see the pinhead LED constructions that barely can compete with incandescent bulbs, reticules.
