col.forbin is on a distinguished road
Default How long do I need to veg a clone to get an oz./plant?

I have a couple of high yielding strains which i'm taking clones of (Blue Hash, Blue Cheese, Gigabud) and am wondering how long sholuld I veg each plant if I want to get 1 - 1.5 oz per plant? I am using Fox Farm Ocean forest as a medium and All of the Fox Farm Products except Open Sesame (Is it worth buying) Ill be having these under 8, 4ft T5 for veg and 2-600w hps for flower. Just looking for a guesstimate..

Ive only grown Autos before (Easy Rider), so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A 600wHPS can give you enough light intensity to support about 2 feet of total bud production (measured vertically), so for most strains flipping somewhere around 18 inches will give a plant that is mostly filled with buds @ just over 2 feet finished in flowering. A sativa would need to be flipped earlier, or any plant that stretches more.

As far as getting 1 ounce per plant, I would say that has more to do with square footage of canopy per plant (assuming adequate light per square foot). A 1 square foot plant should yield at least 1.5 ounces. So I would say start with 1 X 1 foot plants that are placed into flower at 18 inches in height. I recommend you don't top or FIM, rather stake the main branch, and any other side branching you have room to grow into a cola. It is of course important to keep the bottom of the plant wider than the top when LSTing so that light penetrates evenly to the bottom budding sites. You can tie the main top down onto its own stake in order to promot side branching if needed.

G'luck.
