The soap should not be anti bacterial. I believe that will do you some harm. There are many commercial products available for spider mites I'm not certain which home remedies work.

You can use a mix of water, bio soap, tobacco and garlic (pretty smelly but work to block the attack)..
For commercial... I can advise Spinosad that is bio and seems to work pretty good..
Bye

Rep Power: 102 | | spider mites suck. Its easy to get rid of them, its the eggs they lay when they are threatened that keeps em around. Be prepared for a long battle, these guys sure are something else. Im not trying to rain on your parade, but i think these lil buggers are the worst to have, iv'e been there. And they WILL start to spin webs around the buds.

You can fight them off with Tabasco/chilli powder, water and a bit of dish soap...but you need to get something to deal them a heavy blow like pyrethrum...treat your plants atleast three times like 3-4 days apart so you can wipe out the hatchlings before they can breed and lay eggs of their own...thats the only way to beat them.
Doktor Doom will kick the ish out of them but it will burn your plants aswell...so spray from about 2 feet away and dont soak your plants with it if that is all you can find.
I used 1600 X-clude and wiped them out....here is a link from amazon...just so you know what to look for. Amazon.com: X-Clude Pyrethrum Aerosol 20 oz.: Kitchen & Dining
Good luck dude...I feel your pain.

just be sure to inspect for any eggs that might have missed since a few missed eggs will start your problem all over again.
Good luck

Theres a product called Bayer Forbid 4F, one spray over the top of every leaf will kill and keep them dead for 4-7 weeks. Expensive stuff but the best product on the market I've used, but only spray in veg.

Hey man,
If you're growing in soil I've heard of people having success with placing a layer of sand around the base of their plants, on top of the soil. Maybe a half inch to an inch of sand around the base of the stalk. It's supposed to suffocate and kill the eggs.

I've heard of that for fungus gnats, but not spider mites. The eggs of spider mites will be on the undersides of leaves. Because they hang out under there, you either have to spray the tops of the leaves with a product which is translaminar in nature (will move from the top to the underside of the leaves), or ensure that you hit the bottom of every leaf. A common method to ensure this is to wipe the undersides of leaves but that can be very time consuming.
