So of course after purchasing the tent i read a bunch of other tent companies stating that their tents are better because they are not made out of PVC and dont kill plants. I go check and of course mine is PVC.My question is, Has anyone experienced growing in a tent lined with PVC and if so were there any issues???
The article is most likely a bit biased. Speaking from a plastics perspective the article is referring to plasticizers (additives which makes the PVC pliable) "blooming" out from the pvc sheet. While they can and do bloom out the majority of chemicals is released early on (the plasticizers are actually the recognizable aroma that most people associate with PVC or vinyl), so the claim of killing a plant is probably a bit overboard. The second reason is the fact that many "home products" bloom out carcinigen-chemicals like pond liners, mulch bed liners, etc and obviously don't kills plants. The truth is much of the "plastics" scare is overstated and more of a media propaganda. There are a million things in this world that may be harmful to our health, like cell phones, tv's, satelites etc. Bottom line, pvc has been around for quite some time and is no different now than when it was first used 40 years ago. There are better choices of materials out there but mostly because of what happens to pvc if it catches fire. The "C" of pvc stands for chloride which contains the chlorine atom and when reacted with fire adds the hydrogen atom which in turns makes HCL (hydrochloric acid) gas.
Personally I would have no problem using a pvc tent as almost everything on a molecular level can be dangerous in certain situations.
