Rep Power: 81 | | Grow Room Hi all im starting my grow room next week for the first time the last week i have asked and gathered information i need, i thought i do one more post to make sure i got every thing in check here its goes ..............in PIC 1 is a compelte picture on my grow area the boiler cuboard, which has a perfect shelf in there to germinate and grow the plants big enough to transplant into the grow room (big cuboard) with the big cuboard i am gonig to stealth out PIC 2 shows the top right hand corner ( in the ceiling) of my grow room which i will be putting a carbon filter which is attachted to a 4inch exuast fan that leads to the attic to disburst the hot air and add a 400 wat HID and a oscilating fan with in the grow room . PIC 3 shows the left hand doors which i will attach a standard air vent to the bottom about 5 inches up (which concerns me stealth wise it will let out alot of heat and 2 natrual light getting in ) |

Looks like a nice set-up SG.
As far as your vent on the door goes, you don't have to worry about heat escaping(hot air rises), but do try to keep that vent as low as possible.
Just from looking at the pics(which are very helpful), I can see one possibility that might kill two birds with one stone.
If you cut a hole on the bottom outside wall of the boiler cabinet, then covered with a cold air return grill, you could then cut a hole in the bottom left hand side of the big cupboard. You should be able to draw all the air you need, and have very little "light leakage" to deal with.
My only concern would be if the air would heat up too much running around the boiler, but I doubt that(the boilers are well insulated).
What do you think of that idea?

Rep Power: 81 | | sounds sweet pullo so the exuast situation is ok and for the intake of fresh air i be better of making a small hole in the bottom of the cubaord on the wall side of the grow room and put in a standard vent the light leakage wouldnt be a problem becausxe the boiler cubaord door will be shut but for the intake fresh air in the bottom wall of the boiler room as i said the door will be shut is that ok ? |

You may still need to put some dark mesh over the vent hole, but it should be alright.
The way to tell is to climb inside when your done, shut the doors and see if any light gets in. Also keep in mind your passive intake hole needs to be twice the area of your exhaust(that would apply to both holes you will have to make at the bottom), boiler and main. In other words "no small holes"
The boiler probably gives of just the right amount of heat under that shelf for germination and cloning.
Nice set-up.

measure your standard temps where the boiler is. If it gets hot in there, then maybe you will have to have even a box or something like that, to seperate the air going through the boiler cupboard into the grow. Or a vent peice, like stiff metal. maybe insulated. something like that. but get the temps in there first so you know what you are dealing with.
and if that does not work, make the cupboard doors match by having over sized vents on two doors. Both in the same spots, and on the inside cover them with remay cloth. It is cheap stuff you buy at garden centers to go under mulch in the garden. it is black and kind of dense, but air goes through it. If you have them more than double the size of your exhaust you will not have a problem. I even use black window screen on the bottom to kill light reflections going up my vent for stealth. It works. Look in my journal "my little grow or what not to do" in my signature to see what I did for this.
The cloth for under mulch is really cheap so no worries there.

Thanks Jangel-
You saved me with that boiler temp reading.
It would be a shame to cut into the wall just to find out it was too hot to draw air through.
SG just seems to be learning so fast, I was getting excited and skipped SOP of room design.
That is whats so great about GP, there is always someone to fill in the puzzle pieces that always seem to get misplaced.

Rep Power: 81 | | ok so my exuast vent wil lbe 4 inches so my intake hole will have to be 8 inches but now im confused 2 hoels at the bottom ? i jsut thought it was 1 exuast fan into teh attic to get rid of the hot air and one hole twice teh size at the bottom for intake ? |

Okay., I have a 6 in vortex fan. I have 3 X 4 cool air passive intakes, comeing in high but opening near the floor in my grow room. 3 x 4 is 12 which is 2 x the size of my fan exit. One hole will do, yes, but two will add cold air in a couple olf spots, so it is up to you. you can even have it bigger then if you ever need to upgrade you will be good to go. twice is the size at the least you need. remember, PASSIVE no fan.

As long as your passive intakes are at a minimum twice the area of your exhaust port you will be fine.
If you can't use the boiler section for some reason, two vents on the door may look more uniform(therefore stealthy) then just one. Remember you can never have too much fresh air(unless you are using Co2 enrichment, which is a whole other story).
If I'm wrong, Jangel will set you straight as far as what she meant.
I don't presume to speak for her, she has far more wisdom in these matters then I.

Rep Power: 81 | | i might go with a 6inch exuast fan as it goes as 400watt light will produce alot of heat with 2 vent intake grills on either door for look and stealth wise better plus black cloth on the other side of the door for light leakage but still maintain a intake flow of air im getting excited now knowing what i need and do im like a child at christmas i cant wait lol | | The Following User Says Thank You to UkCheeseShane For This Useful Post: | |

It is a good feeling when things start to come together in your head.
You can have all the pieces , but until you can put it together in logical order, it is hard to see the big picture.
I can almost see the light bulb over your head.
This will be a fun project to follow.

Bro Nice Space, I Kind Of Got Lost Through The Thread, But Hey, With That Water Heater Closet You Can Access The Attic For Your Exhaust, A Cool-Tube Would Work Great In There. You Said Tghe Door Will Be Sht For The water Closet?, Well Just Put A Louverd A/C Return Vent In The Bottom Of The Door, Then You Can Have Your Intake In The wall Between, & The Light's Or Anything Else Will Not Effect The Grow Space.
Hope That Might Help??
