Rep Power: 53 | | Germinating new seeds just freshly fallen from mother plant
So the latest seeds I picked up are about 2 weeks out. Seem to be taking forever to germinate. Is this normal? Is there a set rule for marijuana seeds that they need to sit for months before germinating?
Thanks

i had that problem last seeds i grew.. i think they need a rest period before germing. it may be what keeps em from germing in winter in the wild. heat them up a bit see what happens

Yes, pot is an annual so usually the seeds rest in the "winter" and then germinate. If you put them in the frig or freezer for a bit, a couple weeks to a month, they will germinate better.
BUT on the same subject I fertilized a regenerated plant, and while harvesting the seeds some fell into the dirt. The mum died and the seeds sprouted. They where not rested at all and I have 4 little plants in that pot. But I left them long after the plant was ready to have the buds harvested so maybe that had something to do with it.
Good luck sweetie.

My next question is, now I've been attempting to germinate them since Monday with one germinating, have I ruined the other seeds? Or are they good to go down the road if they don't germinate next couple days? I assume yes,, in nature it rains all year long and seeds get wet, get dry get wet before germinating. Quote:

some people have had luck with hard to germ seeds by taking a thin blade and opening them a bit, but this is so delicate and hard to do. Also, I have heard of people lining a match box with sand paper and shaking them up, this thins the outer shell enough for the seed to get the moisture inside them and sprout.
That is all I got buddy.
Peace

Good luck sweetie. | I'm a big believer in cold treating my beans before attempting germ'n. I think thats what these seeds needed. But you got one coming so I might be baked |

I find that simply leaving them out in a paper sack for a month works well, Never experimented with cold treating but i can tell you that in my experience my germ rates are about 50% at 2 weeks and nearly double that at a month. There may be a shortcut but time works well for me.

Ive done it both ways.and found that if the bean has a lot of moisture and u freeze it the seed will split. from the moisture freezeing and expanding ! so i agree with P@ssword and dry in a bag for a few weeks .

you don't want to freeze them. Just put them in a container in the crisper. Remove from the crisper 1 week before germinating. This does work!

Wherever you dry your pot, or in your grow room, a drawer maybe or a cupboard.

hey there dez, just leave them if they are hard to germ. they will germ eventually.
my last batch of seeds took very close to 3 weeks to sprout. like yours they were very fresh seeds. but i was patient, kept changing the water so it wouldnt become old and smelly or the seeds may develop mold
