Chiefa -- I guess I went on the cheap. I bought a 6" duct fan at homedepot, mounting it near the top in my grow space. At first I had vibration/noise problems, though after I glued foam to it, and remounting it, all worked well. Flex duct is cheap, and is easily routed...B

good question as both would be capable of the job, your room has only 36 cu ft and both suck that volume in under one minute.

the 6" 449CFM i would only use if I want to have power reserves, gained by reducing RPM, which also reduces noise and consumption by a good bit

Hey Chiefa. I would consider the 6 inch vortex. If you also get an adjustable control on it, you can dial it down to what you need, when you need it and you will always have it. Then in the future if you decide to make your flower room bigger or add to your grow, you will have a good one to do it with. Better to do it well than to do it cheaply in my experiance, then you have options. And do not need to upgrade at a later date. I just use a dimmer switch wired into it's own metal box, with a plug for my exhaust. It works well, and I can turn it down if I want to or up. I know this is not the preferred way to go, but it works for me. My man did it for me. Just got a dimmer switch with a plug in part. Works great for me.

Peace

Default Fans

Hey Chiefa,Good choice of fans.Get the 6" even if it is more than you need. This fan will move air and keep your lights cool and push it through a carbon filter. If it is to fast and you need to slow it down go to harbor freight and pick up one of these router speed control for around $10.00 to $15.00 bucks. It's the same ones they sell in the hydro shops for $29.95.Here's a pix. They work great too.So when you expand your grow area you have the fan to hanndle it. Peace

I agree that the 6'' with a dimmer is the way to go...though the 4'' may be adaquate for that space...it is nice to be sure you have all the cfm you need to get rid of any unwanted smell and have the flexibility to use the fan for a larger space should that be an option in the future

Now i have a huge problem. I dont know how to wire anything. I can plug things in to the wall lol but thats about it. I dont want to ask my chums for help cause loose lips sink big ships. jangel send you man over to my house to help me out lol. Is there a easy way to do this. sorry for bugen but i am so pumped its almost grow time I think i can start this in 10 days and counting. i still dont know if i should push it ang get 1 600W to start. The only thing that is stopping me is the hydro dont want a big jump all @ once. i am getting a new cloths dryer that runs on gas (old 1 is hydro) so i wonder if that will off set getting the 600W or just stick with the 400W. anyway just took another shot and i babble when.....

thx guys this is the best forum out there will get all my things from hid hut to support the family.
thx chiefa

You know what Chiefa? Then I would go with Toke's suggestion. I think that is just "plug and play" like you need my friend! Sorry, don't think my man will do that for you babes, ya just don't have the parts! LOL! Now, look at the router control that toke is talking about and ask him if it is just plug and go. He will help you my dear.

Peace

FYI, I asked about using a dimmer on a squirrel cage fan at the local hydro and was told it works but shortens the life of the fan.
