Do hydro want to try Soil Advice?
I want to do a one bucket soil next to my hydro grow and see if I'd like it.
Best DIY soil mix or best brand for the $ buck mix I can get?
Thanks

I am currently using Fertilome. 3 cubic feet of soil mix, $19.99. No timed release fertilizer. I use it straight out of the bag, without adding any perlite, vermiculite, or anything else, EXCEPT about a cup of lime, mixed in to buffer the pH. It states on the bag that lime has been added, but when I first used it without adding lime, I experienced a mild pH drop about halfway through flowering. Now, I don't check pH unless I change my water source.

Hydro is much cleaner and the yield is much better then soil! I grow in both and you cant tell the difference as far as quality goes.

COOL question!!! i used to do hydro and i am doing my very first organic soil grow!!
if you want to go organic ...i can recommend Roots Organic potting soil
according to subcool a mix of FoxFarm Ocean Forest and Light Warrior in a 2:1 ratio is also a good base organic soil mix.
i also heard Harvest Moon is another good brand.
but i think what you are looking for is soil with the following ingrediants:
coco fiber, peat moss, perlite, pumice, compost, mulch, worm castings, bat guano, kelp meal, fish bone meal, soybean meal, prilled rock phosphate, feather meal, green sand, leonardite, alfalfa meal, oyster shell flour and glacial rock dust.

I am sure it is a wonderful mix but I am not sure if that is accessable for most growers.
Love u Hank

Peace | oh right ... wasn't very clear there was i?
when you go to buy potting soil ... look for all or most of these ingredients on the label (any "good" MJ organic potting soil should be pretty close).
and then you can get supplemental NPK+ by adding guano, meal, etc.. during the grow....

I know many growers use a base of Sunshine mix promix. This is a pretty basic mix from what I remember and most likely has many of the ingredients you mentioned, Hank. I know my local 'dro store sells it by the cubic bale.
Peace
