Default A deep cycle battery (or similiar) to run an indoor grow in a remote location...

I was wanting to get someones opinion on whether it would be a wise idea to use one of these-

DCACPOWERINVERTERS.COM -

to power a grow box with CFLs?

I've done some research. Batteries are rated with "Amp-Hours"

Basically, if you had a battery rated for 1 amp-hour, and ran something that used 12vDC 1 amp, for 1 hour, then at the end of the hour you'd have a dead battery. My entire box uses less than 2 amps when its on.

Deep-cycle batteries are made for maintaining current, unlike a basic car battery which can handle the initial charge for the engine, but couldn't sustain it. Deep-cycle batteries power troll motors on boats, golf carts, and forklifts.

The only problem... is you might have to have two batteries. Keep one at home charging on a trickle charge and one attached to the box. Every 4 days to a week, switch them. If everything works, it could be possible to grow in completely anonymous areas- a shed/outhouse without power, a cave ;), abandoned building, etc.

Hell if ya got a few grand you can go solar and power the lights...
around 4 grand will get ya 900W of solar...
But ya still need batteries to store it in and those would be deep cycle or Ni-Cad...
I've been thinking of solar for a couple of years waiting for the price to come down, and it has; just not enough for me...
But as far as using batteries to power Cfl's in a remote area give it up you will kill yourself moving enough batteries to do the job and that's if they're free.
It's good to have PIPE DREAMS that's what this country was built on,funny how quickly people forgot that.

Peace
and
Happy Trails

The sad part of this scenario is the battery's are the most expensive part of the setup and have a recurring expense. More than the cost of a CFL grow in total electric...

You know you can get solar panels for free, or super cheap, right?

When you're driving around and see a panel up on a metal pole (used by transportation departments) get out and write the number down off of the pole or panel.

When those poles get knocked down, and the panels take any damage, they give them away or sell them for super cheap. Sure, a few cells might be broken, but it will still produce current...

2 amps at 120volts right, that's 240 watts, 240W/12V = 20amps

Solar collectors are 12V DC . You then use an inverter to produce 120 volt, the current state of the art inverters are 80% efficient. Battery's lose about another 20% during storage and the system yields about 60% of what the panel collects. The only efficient solar App's are 12 volt direct usage. You can use L.E.D.'s.
