CFL lighting

I have been thinking about a light set up of cfls and found a site with 42w cfls. I am going to need 24 bulbs for a 1000w(1008 actually) setup for my plants. Does anyone here grow with cfls and have any light fixture ideas or know of a site that sells 12 spot or more light fixtures? Do i need a ballast for them or do i just plug them in and let them go?Also if i use CFLs will the temp in my box rise as if i were using HPS lighting? Thanks.Peace.

Start there and read some of the grow journels for cfl growers. LOTS of info in there.

per watt a CFL will give more heat than a HID
but
CFL's are smaller and don't have anywhere near the same watts per bulb as HID
therefore you will have more heat in a CFL grow compared to a HID of the same wattage
so
though you may not burn your plants or yourself on an individual CFL, u must vent to get that heat out same or more than a HID grow

so why would you use CFL
cheap, availabe, last longer, spectrum can be blended...and mostly when the grow is too small to need a big old HID...If I was consistantly needing over 400w I would go HID if I could.

scott is right about CFL's running hot, hes right about everything else he said too so listen up. he's one of the people here who really knows his stuff

anyway Fly, what you need to do is some serious research through the FAQ's and in the Grow logs. in fact, i'm a CFL'er myself so come by and take a look at my lights, everything DIY and on the cheap.

in any event, there are many, many people willing and able to help you learn to grow your own ganja, it's just that, if you do more research before you ask questions, you'll ask better questions.

you'll learn faster and earn more respect that way too.

and please don't take this the wrong way, it's just that the questions that you've asked in most of your threads have been asked and answered 1000 times before and the answers are already there if you'll only go looking.

Actually im not a veteran or anything like that i was thinking of going into the military when i made this user name, but changed my mind and am going to college in the fall lol. But thanks anyways
