Rep Power: 29 | | Can i cut the older leafs?
Hi, i finally got a plant and started to train it, the thing is the new stems are not getting enought light because the older ones are in their way. So i was wondering if i could cut some of the older leafs so the new ones can get light, so i can cut them for cloning :D |

NO! They will grow bigger on their own. The leaves are the food factories for the plant. You will shock the hell out of the plant if you do that. Just leave the leaves alone. In time, it will need all of thos leaves....

Hey Terra...Each to his own but from my understanding the fan leaves are what feeds the newer younger growth and I leave mine. Once you make a cutting for a clone you would then take it off before putting on the hormone. And if this is wrong information somebody please let me know : ) A little patience and you will have healthier cuttings...Peace

hmmm, ok. Is there a problem to take the thin stems for cloning? I see alot of stems used for cloning but they look large and i have a fan pointed to my plant to get her strong but the stems still a bit thin.

you can cut them once the branches have fully developed leaves of their own but i rarely recomend it. the plant does what it does best as nature intended. and nature never gets it wrong.

its not advisable while the leaves are producing energy for the plant.
after that i usually strip them off but by then they are smothered in branch folliage anyway...

yes, and if you leave the node there undamaged, two shoots should grow out, so next time you can cut two clones from each spot. Look in my signature. There is a thread on Bonzai Moms. It shows it all.
Peace

Looks more like you spilled a bit of nutes on the edges of the leaves.
If that is the extent of it, I would not worry about it. It is a small thing on gorgeous plants. No worries.
