Default Can-Filter question

Anyone refresh the outer filter or replace the inner charcoal in one of the Can Filters?
Thanks

Yes on both accounts.

A Can filter is basically a metal disc on top and bottm with 2 round wire cages sandwiched inside. the carbon goes in between the wire cages and the air flows through it. It's a fairly easy process and should only have to be carried out every 2 yearfs or so...depending on room conditions/etc.

Wonder how the fit of the end caps are?
Hopefully not spot welded

i'm gonna repack the one i'm using now myself when it needs it,the local grow store carries bulk charcoal i just hope it's as good as the factory uses.I have heard you gotta work at it to try to get it packed as tight as possible like the factory does.
If the caps are riveted on or spot tacked it's easy to drill them out and just re pop rivet the end{s} on.

^^^^What he said!^^^^

FWIW...it isn't hard to "pack' the charcoal. Just dump it in and lightly tap/bounce the filter on the concrete (lightly!). Can filter uses a charcoal that is shaped like a rabbit food pellet...maybe 1/8" in circumference and 3/8" long.... so they only pack as good as they pack...

Phat filter (now Phresh from my understanding) uses smaller/more irregular/angular charcoal peices in their mix. this will pack better and is why (IMO) their filters are MUCH lighter and work just as well as the Cans do. Harder to find...and not necessary overall....unless that is...your filter is mounted on the ceiling. Them bee-atches is HEAVY. Be careful. A friend nearly got taken out by a filter that fell from the ceiling only minutes after he was standing in the same general area.

easy to do...just wear a mask and gloves. this stuff will make your hands black
