Default what size pots?

what size pot does every one use when flowering. I grew my plant 12 inches then transplanted to a bigger pot before flowering. That was 2 weeks ago and now my plants roots are coming out the bottom again. The plant grew to 19 inches in a week and a half. I just bought two 5 gallon buckets. I'm thinking about just cutting the bottom out of my one pot that has the plants in it and just sticking it on top of the 5 gallon bucket with soil in it. What do you guys think I should do?

i transplanted to a 2 gallon or so container right before flower and havent changed yet. i guess it depends on the strain and how much root growth you have but id say even if you safely transplanted into the 5 gal. it would be good on its own. i suppose putting it on top could be easier to do but then you have to factor the added height of the plant.

personally i'd say just transplant it carefully and you will be fine. if you are afraid of stressing it i wouldnt be worried as you are still in the early stages of flower and if anything it might just stunt the over all growth spurt.

I think it was ileso who advises just cutting the bottom off and placing it in the new pot with soil...and he is someone I would trust....but I would repot all together...its just my preference as I reuse the pots year after year....I am sure you will be fine either way...and just for shytes and giggles you could try one each way and see what you like better. also notice below in similar threads there is a few on pot size for flower

I use also 5gal buckets in my grow as i always plant to have root volume left to go to a max of 5ft in flower if things get out of hand or i want to grow a tall sativa bush - in general i'm following to old rule of thumb to have a gallon of dirt per foot of plant grown and i'm doing well that way.

cut the stress theory here, replanting it to now soil to root in decreases the stress one plant has. If replanting would be such a risk how could a plant then survive the trimming of the rootball? That is no problem, actually forces the plant to a better usage of the provided soil, more roots are grown, more foliage is supported in the later stage. and i replanted also in late into flower already, it brings little effect on the end yield compared to a plant grown in the original small volume as the roots don't grow too much in that stage anymore as it seems, so little to no advantage.

thats what i was saying that there is no real problem with stress. as long as you are careful its not likely you will notice anything.

ok I guess I will re pot all together then. I wonder how this will go because the pots that the plants are in now at the top seems to be wider compared to the five gallon buckets.
