I am gonna be growing in a 4.5'x4.5'x6.5 grow tent with a 1000w hps lighting and was wondering if i can use a 6" inline duct fan shown here (High Tech Garden Supply) For my intake and my exauhst hooked up to an air cooled refelctor? My house in the summer is kept at 72 degrees with central air and 68-70 degerees in the winter so should keeping a constant temp of 75 degrees be easy to obtain? Thanks guys.Peace.

So the tent will be inside your home, that's good. nice and cool. What do you plan to do with the aromas after they exhaust the tent, threw the vented reflector?

Fly,

for a 1kw lamp like that in an air cooled housing, I'm not sure if that little in-line can handle it. Sure it'll move some air through it, but you'll need a lot of cooling in that tent.

Those fans suck better than blow, so I would get the fan on the exhaust side of the fixture which so it can also serve as an exhaust for your tent. You want the cool air coming in down low, and exhausts on the top end. You would be better off running a duct from a side vent right to the fixture, then the in-line on the exhaust side. That way your air-cooling system is sealed from the grow cab, and will keep that hot air out of the cab.

Yea man be careful with that 1000 watter...i have been using them for a year and it is a VERY hot light. the heat builds up fast and if you cannot control it, it will surely effect your grow. temps can get up to the high 90's using these lamps. make sure you are air cooling with a very strong 6 inch fan. i suggest a vortex 400 cfm at the least. im downgrading my lights because of the heat issue. instead of two 1000's im going with four 400's. good luck brotha.

There are plenty around but the best exhaust fan is a vortex 6 inch. Hid hut has them and HTG as well. Lots of variation in price but HTG is the cheapest I beleive.

PS. to find HIDHUT just press any of the banner ads on the site and Green passion gets the credit. It helps to support the site.

Peace

Instead of that fan in your post, I would pick up the fan that Jangle suggested and use it to pull air out of the tent. The tent will have intake air vent built into it, you'll see that fresh air will pull nicely threw the vents and into the space. Maybe a small fan inside to circulate the air inside, You'll get it right.

So the tent should have enough intake just by the holes built into it? Heres a link to it buy-the-homebox.com - universal indoor grow box kit. Thanks.

Lot's of good advice in these posts fly...

1. 1000w is more than you need in 4.5 x 4.5 600w tops and I would be ok with 400w
2. Fans are meant to suck air in not blow air in when it comes to most venting systems
3. A powerful (4OO cfm) fan with a charcol filter and speed control would be great and HIDHUT is a good shop for that, or a DIY filter is good if you are handy.

also compare the sunhut to the unit you are buying....you may find almost the exact same box for about $50 less on ebay - I think the sunhut has more vents with flaps to coustomize your venting better.
