Default Texas Heat!!

Hey guys I was wondering how to beat this extreme heat that I'm going to have this summer. I cant grow inside the house. Curious kids. I'm going to try my attic. It can get to 130* up there easily. Was wondering if I could cut into my ductwork from my a/c unit and run a hose from it to the bottom of my grow cabinet, then put a vent at the top to circulate the air. I was thinking I could run a hose from that vent to the attic vent to get rid of the odor. I'm sure I would need a fan or blower of some sort to move the air out. Do you think it will be too cold or hot or what. I really am out of options. If someone could help it would be much appreciated.

thats going to be real hot and humid in texas yea?

but your idea is good, and if your quick you may beat the summer heat with a harvest. and when summer comes you can get readings on the conditions to see what your going to be combatting

but it can definitely be done.

what are your planned dimensions?

Thanks for the reply Halflings. The cabinet is rather small as I do not have much head room in the attic. Cabinet is 48"Hx 42"wx24"D. Is this big enough to do a descent job? I figured I might be able to grow 2 plants in it.(hopefully)

Some place I have seen, have exhaust fans in the gables to circulate the hot air out. Usually thermostat controlled. Your idea of cutting into your a/c vent sounds interesting. Are you thinking about a filter to scrub the smell?

I was hoping that that the exhaust of which I would vent to one of my existing roof vents would get rid of the odor. I realize it would have to be a continuous draw.or it would find its way into the return air and be dispersed throughout the house. Are you thinking that I will need a filter at the exhaust vent so neighbors wont catch the odor or filter somewhere else to keep it out of A/c system?

you have those plants, specially at flower time, you are going to have that marvelous bouquet floating through the air. If you exhaust the air to the outside then your neighbors will ask themselves if skunk cabbage grew around there or not. LOL, There are instructions here, somewhere, on filters. I grow outside and I am legal so I don't give a darn about the smell. I warned the neighbors ahead of time anyway.
Here is jangels thread on home made filters. You can also purchase carbon filters. HOMEMADE CARBON FILTER ~ DIY ~ J-angel style

If I was to grow in my attic. I would find the nearist supply duct, flex duct it to the grow area, put a inline booster fan to push air into the grow room, then at the exhaust of the grow room put a DIY carbon filter, another inline booster fan, then flex duct back to the supply vent to your room of choice in the house. If you still have smell in the late flower you can do some ONA at the air return locations in the house. Keep the air flow in the house. Venting out of the house will waste energy/possible detection. I've been in attics in the summer with fans in it and it is still unbarable. That grow space should probably be insolated...treat it like a remote part of the house.

Just my opinion.

Peace.

If you only have 48" height and heat issues, you should go no bigger then 400w. You can tap into the house vent with no problems. Just make sure to insulate your cab and use a good sized exhaust. Have your air come in at one lower corner and vent out the top of the the opposite side of the room so air passes all the way through the room. If you can keep temps under 85 degrees you should be able to grow 3 or 4 nice plants. Good Luck!
