Hi Bettybud,
I actually tried this once. What I noticed is that the buds in the area of the uvb light appeared to mature quicker but did not get any bigger or better tasting, so I don't use the reptile light any longer. How about another 400w hps?

Go with a second HID.....or...if you are set on sidelighting, buy 4 of these and wrap the room with them at plant height.

The pic is of a 3' model. get the 4' model. should be less than $35 each.

Garden All Year - Single T5 Fluorescent Fixture 3'

all the best

OLA Bettydud,

600w HPS is very good ! Many pro breeder use 600w HPS ...
If you can manage 2 x 400w = COOL !
But you're near 1000w and the difference between 2 x 400w and a 1000w HPS is BIG !
Much Dollars (electricity) for 800w HPS: near of 1000w but not IDEM résult

I used it before one 1000w and 2 x 400w and 600w hps !
The 600w HPS is a very good compromise effective/dollars !
And even a one 400w HPS + 250w HPS is not rotten ! Si, Si, Si
1 friend works like this and the results are much better than 400w HPS + and just smaller than a 600w HPS...
Personally even if I could choose I = select one single 600w HPS at home. 1000w is cool but a but expensive ($) here in France ! 400w HPS is nice...
But 600w is a good option !

Obviously I give you my personal opinion ! ! !
This is just my point of view ! ! !

Viva the Irlande !!!

Respect,
Daz.

Thank you very much Daz,

I do have the option of 2 400w hps, I am using 1 at the moment
(very small garden), I also have a 1000w hps in the cupboard, should I just
resurrect the 1000 (in your opinion)? I still a novice.

Much thanks & respect

B

It's pretty much universally agreed upon by the experts that 600 watt HPS are the most efficient when you compare penetration, coverage and power consumption. 1000s would be great if they had a wider spread and 400s lack the penetration desired by many.

600s strike the perfect balance for most people. That's why they aren't cheap.

2-400s are great if you want shorter plants and more square footage. But, most people have 8' tall ceilings and small areas to grow in. So, again, the 600 shows its superiority here.
