Question Seeds not germinated - Is there hope?

Ok, just starting a grow here, and I've been following all the advice on this forum with interest.

I followed the tutorial here to get my seeds to germinate: Grow Marijuana FAQ, Cannabis cultivation - marijuana growing tips & photos

It's now been over a week since I put the seeds in soil and no sign of nothing yet, I've kept the soil moist and the temps are pretty consistently 78F.

I've only limited seeds as it's a little risky to get the delivered. There's 2 feminised ones I bought and 2 bagseeds, I don't really want to try new seeds unless I'm sure that these ones are dead.

Any thoughts, should I still wait? Can I dig them up carefully and try something different?

Appreciate any suggestions / advice? (even if I am just being impatient!).

Cheers,
D

Denats, I would give them another few days. Granted, outlook isn't perfect, but there's always hope.

Here's what I would do. Take a take a piece of newspaper (cut down, if needed) and lay it over the top of the pots, covering all but about a 1/4" slice of one edge. Set them under a CFL about 8", but covered as suggested above.

Keep the top soil slightly moist (not soaked...just moist), and check them a couple times per day. I've had excellent success with the method described in the attachment you provided, with a couple twists, of course..

Now, I'm a newbie at seeds too, but this method worked great for me.

I soaked the seeds overnight in 1-strain per cup of brewed Lipton tea (after it gets cold!). Set in fridge or cool area overnight. The tea has tannin in it and it helps to soften the shell and allow it to open easier for the new kid to escape.

I fix the pots as suggested (3" with my soil blend...very light) and set the seeds about 1/2" deep on pre-moistened soil, then cover with dry and then pouring 1 TBL pH'd h20 over the top. Then I cover with newpaper and set them about 2'+ under the T-5's. Once they sprout and open the baby leaves fully I start introducing them to the light, and by the first days end they are happy as clams about 18" under the lights.

Just went 12/12 on assorted strains, all sprouted in a total of 6 days... Not always perfect, but it'll do!

Man i just take some purified water, put like an inch in bottom of glass then drop the seeds in there for 24-48 hours in a dark place, like a closet or something. Then wal-la

I am unclear on one thing. Did the seeds actually sprout before you put them in soil?

Nope, they didn't sprout, the tutorial I linked just said to soak them, then put in moist soil.

my first thought would be patience...but with the temp and moisture being ok I am confused...espcially with seeds from two sources..I understand why you want to identify the problem before trying again

planted to deep? should take longer up to two weeks
seeds exposed to extream heat (or some other abuse) before planting?
soil contaminated?
water contaminated?
some creatures in the soil?
soil overly compacted?
containers near a cold draft?

I would start looking for the problem after giving Iso's advise a try

could any of these things be at issue?

depends on what kind of seeds you have and how old they are.it sounds you may have timed seeds and hence your problems with germination.but it can also be you seeded them too deep and they need time to get up.

OK. over a week/unsprouted/in soil... sounds about on par as far as timing goes.

You could wait a couple days for the sprouts to come up. (for those with faith)

You could gently dig the seeds/sprouts up and out of the soil. (for those a little more nervous)

I was in a similar predicament and chose to gently dig up the seeds which turned out to be sprouts, and simply replanted them with the baby leaves on top of the soil.

IMO, chances they are all dead being from 2 different sources is not impossible, just more unlikely.

so, what are you going to do?
