Rep Power: 0 | | Rubbermaid grow questions
I am planning on following the rubbermaid grow tutorial on this site and had a few questions. I get everything about that box except for ventilation, i need a ventilation solution that will get rid of the smell as well but i would rather not pay 150 dollars for a 6" fan with filter. What can i do inside the box that would move enough air around for a decent price but also have a filter.
The rubbermaids will be going in a closet.
This is the link to the original box: DIY stealth Rubbermaid growbox
Thanks in advance

Rep Power: 202 | | Hi ac. You probubly won't have room inside the box for any odor control, but you can easily put it inline and have it vent to wherever you choose. Here is a link for a DIY model, peace. HOMEMADE CARBON FILTER ~ DIY ~ J-angel style |

the setup in that picture is very expensive, i was trying to find a solution that would work with a case fan. 90cfm
I have 2 90cfm case fans can i put them on both ends of a duct and make the ducts an inline carbon filter by putting a panty hose filled with activated carbon in it?

You will need something more solid to keep the carbon in place, but check out the link zig posted. It is similiar to what you are suggesting. Two I use for my own grow room, with a big six inch vortex and it is working! I do not know why it wouldn't work, but you need something so the carbon does not get blown either way. if you just use panyhose you will have a mess as the carbon is very dusty.

go to the DIY thread and find the 'Walmart Pencil Cup Filter" thread. follow that and you will be able to do this setup. costs about $10 at walmart and can create a small carbon filter for your box. I use it in my drybox and about to make another for my rubbermaid.
or use the tutorial Jangel did where she made a carbon filter from similar materials and a cardboard box. use these 2 tutorials to see if you have anything laying around the house to use and then just buy the carbon and some pantyhose. $5 and you got a filter for you box.
goodluck and post whatever you make if you could please :-D

Thanks for the replies guys.

are you implying that one fan would be an intake and the other an exhaust? or having them in line? inline i dont believe their power is cumulative (180cfm) and for such a small area one fan should be enough for exhaust.
But to answer your question there would be no real issue of having 2 exhausts but you need to remember you also need intake holes to compensate for that. also its better to pull air through the filter so that would mean 2 pencil holder sized areas being taken up rather than those areas holding BUDS.

well i kept hearing that a case fan might not be enough to move all the air out of the box and also through the diy carbon scrubber, so i made 2 holes in my box for exhaust, i just figured it couldnt hurt and would also help keep temps down. I also did it this way because i used a 35 gallon container and after i see how this strain grows, and how much room it uses i might just make the rubbermaid into a 2 room system. It looks pretty big in there right now.

Ill be using fox farms light warrior mixed with fox farms ocean forest, i will be feeding them earth juice's grow and bloom formula's. I was wondering if a 2 gallon pot would be big enough for these since they are dwarfs and if i would be able to start them in that or if transplanting is absolutely necessary.
Ive read a lot of good things about my plan for feeding but do any of you have any opinions?
