Default Random Q - Stoner Moment - House Spiders

i live in the uk and here we have bloody bid house spiders (wolf spiders [not the same as the US ones though])
now these things will eat anything that is dying or dead or it happens to stumble across.

my idea to which i have not had a problem yet is i now have a grow tent and im concerned about pests getting in at the moment as it is not fully setup with proper ducting / extraction / intake.

would a wolf spider in the tent help to catch the nasties that fresh smelling bud can attract or would it hinder the growth or damage the plant in any way ??

again this is only a Q as i intentionally keep the house spiders in my home anyway to control pests to which they do very very well. my missus has become accustomed to them too now and does not move her feet when she sees them running around the living room floor.

peace.

OH man! That would just creep me out~! Sorry, but she is a far better woman than I, gungadin, gungadin! No spiders will only help your plants unless they are spider mites then ya have a problem. They do kill pests and are benefiicial. Just don't use bug stuff with them around if you want to keep them.

Peace

Hey J,

Here in the south we have geckos (nocturnal lizards) all over the place. Nothing better than a self guided bug trap, whatever kind it is, to keep the peskies down without poisoning everything around you!

Later,

They sell lady bugs around here to help out with pest problems. My dad used to swear by them in his greenhouse.

We have some Wolf Spiders around here, but they aren't much of an issue, except for being Big Hairy, Scary and Ugly looking Bastards I like them just fine!

I allow spiders to live outside the house, and inside the house so long as it is never seen....but it needs to remember that I have 6 cats and a shop vac, and life will be short if they don't play by MY rules...

We also have added mega ladybugs and preying mantis's to our outdoor garden. Mantis's never survive (birds) but the lady's do and they do a nice job on some of the pests. Still, I need a bug that eats...SLUGS!

wow thanks for all the info guys. i have used ladybirds (ladybugs) before but they fly away!! (outside) inside , ive not tried on my grow room but on my chillies and tomatoes they eat and run/fly basically, never to be seen again. so as i already had some pets in the house i thought i may introduce one to my room with a couple of twitching food once established in a lair. ;-) ;-)

4kaan4 - any chance of you sending me a few ghecko's over !! i have a friend with a few leopard ones they are cute, your lucky you have the climate for them to assist in your pest control methods. lol

i thought that it could not hurt but you know when your medicated up and need clarification for your ideas.

im close to finishing my grow now only a couple of weeks away and i have been lucky no mites or midges so far but its getting cooler now and im noticing them more in my main room so would not be able to stop them from entering grow room once door is opened.

another good one for spider mites i hear is predator mites they eat spider mites then when no food left they die!

*ISO - salt works wonders for slugs but im not sure on how that would process in your grow ? if you could but a barrier of salt around a border of your garden that will stop slugs. (i combat slugs with this method all the time, it dries them out and then they explode) that will certainly keep em way away from your plants. ;-)
