Question Questions-any feedback appreciated!

Hi all and thank you for taking time to read this!

First off I must apologize up front for the length this post could end up being. I will do my best not to ramble. Before I had any clue what I was doing, I threw a couple of seeds in a 6" plastic pot and just kept it watered in front of a window. I ended up with one Female and one Herm. I eventually cut down the Herm and was left with a pretty stretched Female. When I got my grow room ready I decided what the heck and put the female on a 24/0 light cycle and transplanted her into a 2gal pot. I planted her pretty deep up the stem and she is still 20" tall. Since putting her on the new light cycle she has grown about 3" and is starting to fill out. She still has buds but she has a LOT of new veg growth too. She has been on 24/0 for 10 days. My question is when should I change her to 12/12? Should I do it quickly or gradually? Can she still Herm at this point?

Ok part two: Sorry, I told you this could be a long one. When I put the afore mentioned Female on 24/0 I also starting germinating seeds. I started with 12 total and ended up with 9 seedlings. All just bagseed. They were started in 3" pete pots and the lights are about 3" above the top of the plants. Using CFL's. They are growing an average of 1/4" per day. I've noticed that they seem to be very short and stout. Most of them already have at least two sets of true leaves showing and they are only about 1 1/4"-2" tall and several of them are already 3-4" wide and the leaves are growing very tightly together. The little round starter leaves are only about 1/8" lower than the first set of true leaves. Is this Ok? I wish I could post pics, but I can't seem to get any type of battery to run my camera for more than 10 seconds. How long should I wait to transplant them and should I still plant them up to the starter leaves? I would also like to change them to a 18/6 light to conserve a little energy. Again, can this be done quickly or over a period of days?

Thanks so much for reading and any and all feedback would be immensely appreciated.

I also forgot to mention that 6 days ago I had my hubby water them for me while I was at work and he used the water with Nutes in it instead of the plain water. He didn't put much in and I had them mixed to about 1/2 the manufacturers recs. They don't seem any worse for wear from the mix up, but then again, what do I know?

Hi Ttab and Welcome to GreenPassion!

First off, if your plants look fine after your hubby feeding them 6 days ago, then they are fine, no worries!

Second, you should not mix your nutrients in advance and keep them around for a long time. This will change the chemistry of them over time and some nutes could explode on you! Use everything you mix up at once, and if there is extra, feed your houseplants with them!

Third, for young plants, don't feed until the first round water leaves have dried up. It can kill them. And planting them up to the round water leaves is just fine, I do it all the time and never have a problem. You are increasing your root zone doing this so it is all good. With the older plant, I hope you just burried up to there on them, and not deeper. If you bury them too deep, above where those leaves used to be, you could encourage rot.

Next, your seedlings sound like you have them vegging under 6500k cfl's only. This is why they are so tight with little internodal space. Not to worry, it is fine, but to correct this add 1/4 of the other colour range to help them stretch a bit. So say you have 4 6500k cfl's add one 2700 to 2400k cfl to the mix and they will stretch more for you. Yes, it is fine to plant them up to the water leaves, but let them stretch a bit first. Those babies sound like they need potting up into soil. Put them into a seedling mix or something without fertilizor in it. Little seedlings will burn if they are given nutes. It should say on the bag what is in it.

With the female you are vegging I would give her a few more weeks in veg or she will be more prone to hermie on you. Now she is going BACK into veg and needs to get securly in that phase before you go monkieing with her anymore. Let her grow a bit more then put her straight into 12/12 and she will revert back to flower phase. At first they can look kind of funky if they have been flowering. Then they will start vegging growth. Now she is most likely just entering veg after going WTF!!! is going on!!!

You can switch the babies to 18/6 anytime and they will be fine. No worries. and they might even stretch a bit for you as well!

Hope that I hit all your q's. I will check back.

Peace

Thank you soo much j-angel. You are good. ::i bow to thee:: You are correct 8 6500k cfls. I needed to add more lights anyway, this just gives me another reason to convince hubby. And with the older plant, the starter leaves (or where they would be if they were still there) is at least another 2 inches above dirt level. She really, really stretched. But she is really starting to fill in nicely. She has noticeable change every morning when I check on her and still more when I check on her in the evening. It's like she has awakened from a coma! I absolutely have to get another camera. Is it possible to become more addicted to growing than smoking?!

Thanks so much again,
tab

LOL! Yes, it can be addictive...but so can the rewards! You sound like you are well on your way. Keep asking questions and don't be shy. The only stupid question is the one you never asked. In time you too will help someone else. We all just pay it forward.

Make sure you check out the FAQ's. We have two, both at the top of the page. One from Overgrow and our own GP one. They will help you with a basic idea of what is going on.

Welcome to GreenPassion!

Default Just an update

I have added more lights and of course I am now having temp issues. Little better today, was almost 100F last night. Moved a few things around, added more air intake and exhaust. Temp is now down to 82F. Unusually warm and muggy out, should cool off soon and that will help alot! I absolutely have to transplant my 9 little pretties. I noticed today that their little roots are poking out of the bottoms of the pete cups. So I am off to the "toy store" (Lowe's/Home Depot). This is so much fun it should be illegal! Oh wait........
