Rep Power: 105 | | Oh no.. Maybe..
Ok, well first off, let me explain that i have 6 plants in a hydro setup.. i switched the lights to 12/12 when they were about a foot and a couple inches tall... they shot off like crazy, their now about atleast 4 ft. the biggest.. this isn't the problem tho, since i now have a forrest in my closet, i picked the middle plant, which i had topped, to manipulate outwards so more light can get to the bottom nodes.. well, in the midst of trying to tie back the two stems (which seemed to me very strong, nice muscles where the two branches split), i was wrong, the second i touched it, it split the plant down the middle where i had topped it.. my jaw dropped.. instantly i started wrapping string around where it had split and tightly put the two stems back togeather.. now their togeather, prettty tight due to the string i wrapped around it... im sure the plant is shcoked, and this was my biggest plant.. the buds are forming and already im seeing signs it wont be able to hold its weight... my question... will the plant heal itself? do i have a chance of it being a hermie due to shock? its already about 2-3 weeks into flowerings.. please, any info on this would be great as asoon as u guys can..

I have never had this happen but I have had stems bend and almost break while LST'ing. And one split right in half. Freaked me right out. First off, the string will block the flow of water up the stem and the growth as well. Try tape. I used electrical tape as it has low adhesion to the stems of plants I have found. And it gives with growth, but sticks well to itself. Or good old duck tape. Also as you wrap it around you can build it up to add support to the branch. Add sticks or whatever to add support for the wieght. Videoman had this happen to him I beleive in one of his post (I will try to find the post for you and add to this later) and taped up the stem and it healed. My plant that split in half seems to have healed as the growth above has not wilted or anything. There was about 8 inches above the split. It is good it has not broken right off. You have a chance. BUT mine was not in flower. I am not an expert by any means, just trying to help. I will add to this when I find the info. Good luck!

Ok well thats a lil promising that u you told me it healed itself, thanks jangel... i took off the string as that was the only quick fix i had at the moment, and put a moist paper towl, shaped like a bandage, around the crack, i noticed the crack really isn't THAT bad, and then secured the paper towl with the string.. i'll be keeping the paper towl moist, maybe with a light sollution mix? and see what happens from here.. this happend to my last harvest - my light fell and sliced the side of a kush plant right off, alot worse then this split, the kush ended up turning to hermie and ruined 50% of my harvest.. but that was like i said ALOT worse than this.. any more suggestions or words of hope i would love.. this is my biggest plant and the buds are really forming beautifully... id hate to trash this.. btw the strain is ICE, and like i said its about maybe 3 weeks into flowering..

Alot of people deliberately do this to their branches and tops even, its called supercropping. you pinch the stem, bend it in half, it heals in a day or 2 and opens up the plant a little more. Quote:

PdonTheory: first off take off the paper towel. I think all it will do is block you from supporting the plant. And it might just make roots with the moisture, or add a site for mold growth and you do not want that with you in flower. From my experiance, with trees and air layering plants that are not pot, moisture makes roots. You do not want that. Plus you want the plant to heal so you do not want it interferred with by H2O. Take tape, as I said and wrap it with it, adding support as you do it. Even find a couple of little sticks or popsicle sticks to support it, then it should heal. The two sides need to be matched and bound in place. And dry. I am still looking for that freaking post. I can't seem to find it. Just search as Hobo said supercropping and see what comes up.
Good luck and I will check back.
And good luck!!!

Jangel, thank you for that you have a great point their.. i think i will leave it as is, all i have right now is scotch tape, i figure i'll now let the paper towel serve as support so the string dosn't constrict the nut. flow.. let the paper towel dry out, or maybe just leave as is for today cuz i really dont wanna mess with it, and tommarow or the next, cut the string off and wrap it with tape...

well just an update... so far so good (as far as i can tell) with the split.. if anyone has anymore suggestions, please feel free, i'm definitly in need of em.. i searched the forums as best as i could to see if anyone had the same mistake as i, and any outcome that may have come of it, but to no avail.. maybe the thread was deleted? anyway, i guess all i can do now is hand it over to the sensi gods, may they heal thy wounds of thy ice and flourish me with beautiful, healthy buds... amen
